{"id":83240,"date":"2025-07-22T13:09:10","date_gmt":"2025-07-22T13:09:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/83240\/"},"modified":"2025-07-22T13:09:10","modified_gmt":"2025-07-22T13:09:10","slug":"us-taiwan-spaceport-may-cut-houston-taipei-travel-time-to-as-little-as-2%c2%bd-hours","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/83240\/","title":{"rendered":"US, Taiwan spaceport may cut Houston-Taipei travel time to \u2018as little as 2\u00bd hours\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The United States and <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/topics\/taiwan?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"noopener\">Taiwan<\/a> are exploring the possibility of a groundbreaking spaceport partnership that could slash travel time between them from over half a day to only a couple of hours.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">According to the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), which functions as the de facto US embassy in the absence of formal ties, the proposed collaboration will focus on suborbital flights \u2013 an emerging form of space transport in which a vehicle briefly exits the Earth\u2019s atmosphere before re-entering and gliding to a runway landing.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cPossible spaceport cooperation is awaiting further evaluation and discussion,\u201d the AIT said in a social media post on Monday.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cIf suborbital flights were used, travel time between Taipei and Houston could be shortened to as little as 2\u00bd hours. Houston\u2019s Ellington Airport already has a legal spaceport licence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Suborbital flights are still in the experimental phase but could revolutionise long-distance travel in the coming decades. A direct commercial flight between Taipei and Houston now takes about 14\u00bd hours.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Initially developed for research and military purposes, suborbital flights are now being explored for tourism and ultra-fast cargo delivery.
