The project includes utilities work, installation of new street lighting, and demolition and rebuilding of a bridge. The work is expected to take close to two years.<\/p>\n<p>The council awarded the contract to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sybconstruction.com\/about-us\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SYB Construction<\/a>, based in Venus, Texas. Five other bids ranged from about $8 million to about $7.3 million.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re also making sure that we are very careful with the existing gas lines that are relocated by Atmos,\u201d said Hurst public works director <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hursttx.gov\/Home\/Components\/News\/News\/427\/28?arch=1&amp;npage=2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Robert Sauceda<\/a>, adding that the majority of the time is needed for work on the bridge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe contractor has to be working with traffic, with businesses, and that existing gas line, so we have to be very careful,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hursttx.gov\/home\/showpublisheddocument\/14552\/639150609092170000\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">map and construction bids<\/a> list for the project is available on the city of Hurst website.<\/p>\n<p>Rickel Park repairs<\/p>\n<p>Council members also ratified city manager <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hursttx.gov\/about-us\/departments\/city-manager-s-office\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Clay Caruthers<\/a>\u2019 emergency purchases, not to exceed $455,000, for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share\/p\/1E3Gph8Ycv\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">erosion repairs<\/a> at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hursttx.gov\/Home\/Components\/FacilityDirectory\/FacilityDirectory\/58\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rickel Park<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Sauceda said design work for the repairs was done in-house to save money.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is part of our priority-based budgeting in the city,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The repairs are necessary to \u201cprotect the drainage channel area from future erosion,\u201d the Parks &amp; Recreation Department said on its Facebook page.<\/p>\n<p>To learn more about how the transcript that informed this report was created, visit <a href=\"http:\/\/covergov.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">covergov.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Eric Zarate is a freelance journalist.
