LOUDONVILLE\u2014When Niskayuna sophomore Billy Roemer scored four minutes into Saturday\u2019s Section 2 Class B championship, he could not have predicted that his goal would be all the offense his team would need.<\/p>\n

Sparked by a tremendous defensive effort, top-seeded Niskayuna coasted to a 13-0 rout of No. 2 Ballston Spa and claimed its 22nd sectional title in program history at Siena University\u2019s Hickey Field.<\/p>\n

\u201cI’m so proud of all these guys,\u201d Niskayuna senior attack John Mooney said. \u201cEvery single guy walking off (the field) right now has worked their heart out throughout the whole year. Showing up and being at everything, it’s great to see it finally coming together.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey’ve experienced their ups and downs through the season and we just keep telling them we want to play our best lacrosse in May and June,\u201d Niskayuna coach Mike Vorgang said. \u201cThey continue to improve. They work extremely hard and they want to win.\u201d<\/p>\n

Niskayuna (16-3), ranked No. 7 in the state, will meet the winner from Section 3 in regional play at noon on Saturday, June 6 at Cicero-North Syracuse High School.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that it’s going to be a challenge as it always is, but I feel good about it,\u201d Vorgang said. \u201cI think they’ll be prepared to play.\u201d<\/p>\n

Roemer opened the scoring on a diving shot that found the back of the net for his first of three goals on the afternoon.<\/p>\n

\u201cI saw Connor (Reynolds) running the break and I was just going down and he had a good pass and I scored,\u201d Roemer said.<\/p>\n

Niskayuna, which had scored 42 goals in its past two games entering Saturday, remained patient on the offensive end and struck for five goals in the second quarter. Roemer scored off a feed from senior Sami Chowdrey with four seconds remaining to provide his team a 6-0 lead at halftime.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe definitely played a lot of defense, so us slowing the ball down gave our guys down there a break,\u201d Mooney said. \u201cWe were able to convert most of the time and that worked out well for both ends of the field.\u201d<\/p>\n

Niskayuna\u2019s defense, which has allowed only five goals this postseason, did not let up in the second half as it continued to stifle Ballston Spa. The Scotties had outscored their opponents 33-8 in their past two games.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had a game plan coming in and it was executed,\u201d Vorgang said. \u201cA lot of times it doesn’t go that way, so I\u2019m really proud of their effort. We had some matchups that we needed to contain that we were concerned about. They did a great job of that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Niskayuna saw six different goal scorers on Saturday, including Chowdrey, who recorded a hat trick and Mooney, who added two goals and two assists.<\/p>\n

Niskayuna, which fell to West Genesee in the 2025 Class A regional final, hopes to produce a much different result next Saturday.<\/p>\n
