MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A fisherman in the Grand Strand came across an endangered sea turtle.<\/p>\n
In a Saturday Facebook post, South Carolina State Parks said that an angler at the Myrtle Beach State Park fishing pier accidentally caught an endangered Kemp\u2019s Ridley sea turtle.<\/p>\n
The turtle was brought up with a drop net, as permitted, and trained rangers were called to figure out the best treatment.<\/p>\n
It was superficially hooked and entangled in fishing line, and all was easily removed by the rangers. <\/p>\n
Park rangers then released the turtle after they were given permission by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources sea turtle staff. <\/p>\n
South Carolina said Kemp\u2019s ridleys are some of the most endangered sea turtles in the world and are unlike others.<\/p>\n
They are rare nesters in the state.<\/p>\n
