The World Cup &#8212; which will play six games in Philadelphia &#8212; is \u201cexpected to bring more than 500,000 people to town.\u201d The games \u201cwill sell out, hotels will be booked, and the air may be smoky.\u201d When asked if the city understands how neat the atmosphere will be, Comcast Spectacor CEO Dan Hilferty said, \u201cWe\u2019re not ready.\u201d Breen noted Philadelphia was the \u201ccenter of the sports world for the Bicentennial\u201d in 1976, hosting the MLB, NBA and NHL All-Star Games, along with the Final Four, and the \u201cexcitement of 1976 is the closest comparison for what Philadelphia can expect in 2026.\u201d The city hosted an \u201cestimated 14-20 million visitors that year, including 1 million on July 4.\u201d There will not be as many events next year in Philadelphia as there were in 1976, but the events are \u201cfar more grander than 50 years ago.\u201d Hilferty said that the city \u201cexpects to make\u201d $770M of economic impact during the two weeks when the World Cup is in town.
