{"id":8357,"date":"2025-06-23T15:49:08","date_gmt":"2025-06-23T15:49:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/8357\/"},"modified":"2025-06-23T15:49:08","modified_gmt":"2025-06-23T15:49:08","slug":"hillcrest-strangulation-leads-to-murder-charge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/8357\/","title":{"rendered":"Hillcrest strangulation leads to murder charge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\tOverview: Strangulation in Hillcrest<\/p>\n<p>Solomon Guerrero, 55, has pleaded not guilty to murder in the death of Jerry Puerile, 61, of Clairemont, who was\u00a0fatally\u00a0injured in front of a Shell service station at 330 Washington Street on March 1 at 4:54 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>An Old Town man suspected of <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofsandiego.com\/crime\/2025\/03\/02\/man-attacked-and-killed-at-gas-station-in-hillcrest-suspect-arrested-investigation-continuing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">strangling another man<\/a> in front of a Hillcrest service station will face a Sept. 24 preliminary hearing.<\/p>\n<p>Solomon Guerrero, 55, has pleaded not guilty to murder in the death of Jerry Puerile, 61, of Clairemont, who was\u00a0fatally\u00a0injured in front of a Shell service station at 330 Washington St. on March 1 at 4:54 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>During a hearing\u00a0on June 17,\u00a0a prosecutor\u00a0said nothing about the relationship between Guerrero and Puerile has been discussed in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sdcourt.ca.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">San Diego Superior Court<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Witnesses called police\u00a0on March 1\u00a0to say a man was strangling another man and hitting his head against the pavement in front of the gas station in Hillcrest. Officers responded and found Puerile unconscious. He was rushed to a hospital, where he died.<\/p>\n<p>Officers looked in the area and found a man matching the suspect\u2019s description near the intersection of West Washington St. and Albatross St. <\/p>\n<p>Guerrero was arrested without incident, police said.<\/p>\n<p>Guerrero, who had previously worked as a manager, had been out on bond on a felony charge of making a criminal threat to a 35-year-old man on Feb. 14, according to court records. He is also charged with failure to register as a sex offender from another case. <\/p>\n<p>Guerrero has pleaded not guilty to all charges.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In his last appearance before Judge Steven Stone on May 20, Stone affirmed\u00a0Guerrero\u2019s\u00a0no-bail status.
