Rosamund Pike<\/a> told off an audience member for texting during her emotional performance in Inter Alia<\/a>, saying she hoped it was \u201cvery important\u201d.<\/p>\n

The actor<\/a>, who plays a court judge in the show, returned to the stage at the end of the production at Wyndham\u2019s Theatre in London on Saturday to give a lecture on theatre etiquette<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Her speech came as a surprise but elicited cheers from the audience as she told them how the incident was upsetting. <\/p>\n

\u201cI just wanted to say for anyone going to the theatre, it\u2019s a huge thing that we\u2019re trying to give you. I am trying to tell you a story, and I\u2019m feeling you, and I hope you\u2019re feeling me too,\u201d she told the crowd.<\/p>\n

The audience member had been texting during one of the more emotional and important scenes in Suzie Miller\u2019s play. <\/p>\n

\u201cSomebody was texting in this part,\u201d she said, directing to a section of the audience. \u201cYou know who you are and I\u2019m not going to single you out.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe it was very important, and maybe you\u2019re a doctor, and you\u2019re saving someone’s life, and I hope you are, but we do see these, we do feel them. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve got you, I feel like I\u2019ve got to hold you all, so when I feel that and see it, it\u2019s hard.\u201d<\/p>\n

Talent agency PTC management wrote on Instagram: \u201cWe absolutely stand behind every word said here at the bows, calling out an audience member texting in what must be the most emotional scene for the actors to portray!\u201d<\/p>\n

The play, which was given four stars by The Independent<\/a>, focuses on sexual assault and the injustices of the legal system.<\/p>\n

Ms Pike\u2019s performance as Jessica Parks, a London Crown Court judge, won her the 2026 Olivier Award for Best Actress. <\/p>\n

One audience member, under the username Neddy, wrote on X: \u201cIt was an amazing show, but huge props to Rosamund Pike for calling out someone for texting. <\/p>\n

\u201cShe took time during the curtain call to point out how unacceptable it is, especially during a pivotal scene. The actors are giving a live performance right in front of you. Put your phone away for a couple of hours.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another wrote: \u201cRosamund Pike calling out an audience member in the stalls section who texted during a very important\/intense moment during curtain call was quite cool.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ms Pike is not the first to call out poor theatre etiquette, following actors including Daniel Craig, Patti LuPone, and Hugh Jackman. <\/p>\n

Last month, Lesley Manville <\/a>criticised \u201cinsulting\u201d theatregoers who take photos during curtain calls.<\/p>\n

The Phantom Thread actor, 70, said people should \u201ctake the digital out of it for just a moment\u201d, adding: \u201cCome on, it\u2019s theatre \u2013 let\u2019s preserve it!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are all in this room, we are telling you a story, you\u2019re listening \u2013 clap or don\u2019t clap, but don\u2019t just stick your phone in our face.
