\n\tFollowing its season three finale Sunday, the show\u2019s creator Sam Levinson<\/a> announced the news on\u00a0Popcast<\/a>, The New York Times\u2019 music podcast. The Hollywood Reporter has also confirmed the news.<\/p>\n \n\tThe season three finale saw shocking deaths and an emotional tribute to Angus Cloud, who died in 2023 \u00a0at age 25 of an acute intoxication following an accidental overdose. Read THR\u2019s<\/a> recap of the finale here. <\/p>\n \n\tThe show ending doesn\u2019t necessarily come as a surprise, since Zendaya<\/a> has said in interviews that she thought this season was the last one. There was also a four-year gap between seasons two and three and rumors of conflict behind the scenes<\/a>.<\/p>\n \n\tAsked about the years-long delay, Francesca Orsi, executive vp HBO programming, head of HBO drama series and films, recently told THR:<\/a> \u201cIt was important that everyone felt season three was moving the story forward in a meaningful and ambitious way. When Sam began sharing how much more expansive the world of the show would feel this season, there was genuine excitement about returning.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tLevinson warned fans of the show that they shouldn\u2019t wait around to watch the final episodes as they hit over the next 10 days. \u201cIf you\u2019re not watching episodes seven and eight live \u2014 the moment they drop\u00a0\u2014 they will get spoiled,\u201d he said, not offering much more of a tease. \u201cThere\u2019s some big things that happen.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tEarlier this month, Levinson told an audience at the American Cinematheque that he believes season three \u201cis hands down our best season,\u201d teasing that \u201cthere\u2019s some big things that happen\u201d in the episodes leading up to the finale.<\/p>\n \n\tClearly, he wasn\u2019t kidding: Last week\u2019s episode (spoiler alert!) saw the death of Jacob Elordi\u2019s Nate Jacobs.
