\n\tSam Levinson<\/a> is standing by his decision to have Rue (Zendaya<\/a>) die in Sunday night\u2019s Euphoria season three finale. <\/p>\n

\n\tIn the post-show segment on HBO, Levinson, the show\u2019s creator, says it felt like the right way for her character to conclude. \u201cIt felt like an honest ending,\u201d Levinson said. \u201cThe honest ending is people like Rue don\u2019t make it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI think in the end, I wanted to tell an honest story about addiction,\u201d he continued. \u201cI also wanted to tell a story about grief and the emotional turmoil that it can create.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tThe finale shows Rue dying due to an accidental overdose from taking Alamo\u2019s Percocet pills that were laced with fentanyl. During a dream sequence while she\u2019s overdosing, she has an emotional moment with Fezco that features unseen footage with Angus Cloud<\/a>, who died in 2023 at age 25 from an accidental overdose. Rue\u2019s death was especially painful due to her character\u2019s struggles with addiction throughout the series. (Read The Hollywood Reporter\u2019s finale recap here<\/a>.) <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI wanted to tell the story for Angus and for people who weren\u2019t granted a second chance,\u201d Levinson said, as he got emotional while reflecting on his own past struggles with substances. <\/p>\n

\n\tAdditionally, Hunter Schafer, who played Rue\u2019s on-again, off-again love interest Jules, called Zendaya her \u201csoul mate\u201d and said that she was so lucky to have her as her first scene partner in the series.<\/p>\n

\n\tShortly after the finale was released, Levinson announced and HBO confirmed Euphoria won\u2019t return for season four and that season three is the end<\/a>.<\/p>\n
