Lunch and dinner are served in an actual house, designed to make customers feel like they\u2019re at a family get-together eating meatloaf and oxtails. Madea\u2019s got lots of new fans after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/article\/samuel-l-jackson-madea-restaurant-fort-worth-22254764.php\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Samuel L. Jackson stopped in while visiting D-FW to film Frisco King<\/a> recently. Penson said it was a life-changing day. &#8220;For Mr. Jackson to come in and see that,\u201d Penson said of the room decorated with photos of presidents and civil rights leaders, \u201cit&#8217;s a real big deal to us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Madea&#8217;s Down Home Cooking is at 1019 W. The coastal Mexican menu is as refined as it is fun, making it a great option for business get-togethers, family meals and drinks with friends. The red snapper ceviche is a delightful punch of sweet and sour, and great to share. Then order the kale salad with almond dressing (my favorite so far), a plate of spicy rigatoni alla vodka and some shrimp tagliolini to share. If it\u2019s anything like the state\u2019s first location at Inwood Road and West Lovers Lane, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/article\/maman-lakewood-pop-up-bagels-open-dallas-22224613.php\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">expect hordes of breakfast lovers to line up for steaming hot bagels<\/a>. What\u2019s the deal with bagels right now? One, Dallas\u2019 bagel culture is still fairly new and the excitement runs high. Two,\u00a0PopUp is popular on Instagram, and actors Patrick Schwarzenegger and football players TJ and JJ Watt helped finance it. The hype is real.<\/p>\n<p>PopUp Bagels is at 5450 W. Lovers Lane and 2323 Henderson Ave., both in Dallas.<\/p>\n<p>Salt and Straw in East Dallas and Fort Worth<\/p>\n<p>Visit Salt and Straw for bites of its inventive ice creams like paloma sherbet, chocolate caramel smoked budino, and pear and blue cheese. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/article\/when-salt-straw-ice-cream-opens-dallas-fort-worth-22248197.php\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">An early fave for me is the cream cheese jalape\u00f1o jelly ice cream<\/a>, a dessert meant to imitate the savory snack of cream cheese, spicy jelly and crackers. If you\u2019re dining with some not-so-adventurous eaters, don\u2019t fret: There are brownie, vanilla and cookie dough ice creams that\u2019ll be excellent in a house-made waffle cone.<\/p>\n<p>Salt and Straw is at 2323 N. I\u2019m not dressed for this. I want someone to come in from the pool, grab some sandwiches and go back,\u201d said owner Olivia Genthe. What\u2019s more, her new spot in Dallas\u2019 Cedars neighborhood sells a heck of a good sandwich that\u2019ll delight kids and parents at the pool \u2014 or anywhere, really. Popular picks so far are the pastrami, the grinder and the dill-turkey.<\/p>\n<p>Seegars Deli is at 1910 S. Harwood St., Dallas.<\/p>\n<p>Shady\u2019s Burgers and Brewhaha in Frisco (on Lewisville Lake)<\/p>\n<p>Some North Texans already know burger joint Shady\u2019s in Richardson and Lake Highlands. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/article\/shady-s-burgers-open-third-restaurant-hidden-22233140.php\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">A third Shady\u2019s has opened on the sunny shores of Lewisville Lake<\/a>, Garc\u00eda reports. Arrive by boat or car for burgers, cheese fries and tater tots in a casual setting. Kids eat for under $10 here, not including the milkshake we \u201caccidentally\u201d order every time.
