(ABC Rural: Jennifer Nichols)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Queensland strawberry growers gathered at TSL Family Farms, an hour&#8217;s drive north-west of Brisbane, to learn more about a three-year joint trial with Canadian-based AERIUM Analytics, funded by Hort Innovation&#8217;s Frontiers project.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">AERIUM Analytics chief growth officer Jill Viccars said flying and fixed-wing versions of the RoBird had been successfully used overseas to deter birds at airports and mining sites.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Its horticultural trials began last year in Victoria and South Australia, focusing on stone fruit, apples and almonds.<\/p>\n<p>Crop damage reduced by 89pcLoading&#8230;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;The almond trial ran for four and a half to five months, and we did a treated versus untreated site,&#8221; Ms Viccars said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;We saw an 89 per cent reduction in fruit damage, so we were obviously very excited about that.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Our second year of operations in almonds is going to be looking at how we scale [expand].&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>$200K in crop loss<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">TSL Family Farms co-owner Laura Wells was eager to host RoBird&#8217;s first Queensland trial.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A woman stands between raised strawberry rows with a ripe fruit in her hand.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/d9ff70b8cca2a1102d03db7bc9b2838e.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Laura Wells hopes the RoBird can help cut fruit losses to rainbow lorikeets.
