It&#8217;s owned by Frankie Nuccio, former owner of the popular Preston Hollow fixture Pizza by Marco.<\/p>\n<p>Frankie Nuccio<\/p>\n<p>After a tornado led to a yearslong hiatus, the owner of a popular former Preston Hollow pizzeria is back in the pizza business.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-channels-pixel.ex.co\/events\/0012000001fxZm9AAE?integrationType=DEFAULT&amp;template=design%2Farticle%2Fplatypus_two_column.tpl\" alt=\"\" class=\"x1px y1px vh abs\" aria-hidden=\"true\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Ghost Pizza opened May 27 in Lake Highlands, near White Rock Lake, in a space that was previously occupied by a pho spot. But before Ghost Pizza, owner Frankie Nuccio operated the beloved Pizza by Marco.<\/p>\n<p>The Pizza by Marco name carries a long history.\u00a0Nuccio\u2019s dad, Joe Nuccio, originally started the pizzeria in 1949 on Carroll Avenue, before moving to Preston Royal Village, a shopping center in North Dallas\u2019 Preston Hollow neighborhood, in 1962.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>The pizzeria lived at that location for years until it was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/2019\/10\/21\/it-looks-like-bombs-went-off-restaurants-in-preston-hollow-close-after-dallas-tornado\/\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">\u201cblown up\u201d by a tornado in late 2019<\/a>, Frankie Nuccio said. \u201cThe tornado ruined everything,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"A tornado destroyed the original location of Pizza by Marco in October 2019, which led to a yearslong hiatus for the owner, Frankie Nuccio. \u00a0\" loading=\"lazy\"   style=\"aspect-ratio:4 \/ 3\" class=\"x100 y100 opc bgpc ofcv bgscv block bg-gray200 mnh0px fill\"\/><\/p>\n<p>A tornado destroyed the original location of Pizza by Marco in October 2019, which led to a yearslong hiatus for the owner, Frankie Nuccio. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Owner Frankie Nuccio<\/p>\n<p>Just a few months before the tornado wiped away Pizza by Marco, Nuccio lost his mother. His father had passed many years before that. With talks of a worldwide pandemic emerging, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/2021\/12\/09\/after-2019-tornado-fish-city-grill-will-reopen-in-preston-hollow-in-early-2022\/\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Nuccio decided to take a step back<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Nuccio ventured into a different kind of business, which he sold last year. He realized it was time to revive the family operation, a decision he felt his parents would have wanted him to make.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>Because of this, he brought back his family\u2019s pizzeria business this year, and he felt the name Ghost Pizza was most fitting for it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The restaurant couldn\u2019t legally use the name Pizza by Marco because of the pizza chain Marco\u2019s Pizza. Prior to its closure, the spot went by My Family\u2019s Pizza, but\u00a0Nuccio said people always knew it as Pizza by Marco.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Ghost Pizza is located in Lake Highlands, near White Rock Lake. It\u2019s in Lake Highlands where Nuccio lives, but he hopes that doesn\u2019t prevent his loyal customers in Preston Hollow from stopping by.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m happy to be back in the business, and I&#8217;m hoping some of my old faithful customers will make the 10- to 15-minute drive from Preston Hollow to over here, because it\u2019ll be worth it,\u201d he said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p><strong>Affordable and organic pizza<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ghost Pizza offers something seemingly everyone these days is looking for: affordable food.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For just $3, you can get a big slice of pizza, Nuccio said, and for the entire summer, you can get two large cheese one-topping pizzas for $19.99.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The best part? Nuccio said he serves \u201ca very &#8216;clean&#8217; pizza,\u201d one that will fill you up but won&#8217;t make you feel nasty or bloated later on. Organic flour, olive oil, pasta noodles and everything else \u2013 such as the meats he uses \u2013 are fresh. Further, the restaurant\u2019s appetizers, which includes fried ravioli and mozzarella sticks, are fried in beef tallow, a popular alternative to seed oils.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>The Lake Highlands location of Ghost Pizza is the only one for now, but\u00a0Nuccio said he may open one or two more locations in the future, maybe even one in Preston Hollow.
