PHOENIX (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 A Phoenix teen who was eight months pregnant was shot and killed Saturday on a family trip in San Diego. Her baby girl is in critical condition, and the man police arrested for her murder is facing felony charges.<\/p>\n
While investigators and prosecutors continue building their case, the people who knew Jariah Edwards best say they want everyone to remember the 17-year-old behind the headlines, describing her as a young woman excited to become a mom.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe fit right in with us. Like, she was literally one of us,\u201d said a friend.<\/p>\n
Friends describe nurturing teen<\/p>\n
\u201cShe was my best friend, but we were all very close to her,\u201d Amara Corley said.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe just had a natural nurturing energy to her,\u201d Jamila Corley said.<\/p>\n
A nurturing energy that her friends say was about to play a big role in her next chapter in life. <\/p>\n
\u201cShe was just ready to finally meet her and see what she looks like,\u201d Amara said.<\/p>\n
Instead, her loved ones are left planning a funeral<\/a> after San Diego police say Jariah was shot outside a vacation rental just after 1 a.m. Saturday.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s not fair what happened to her,\u201d a friend said.<\/p>\n Doctors delivered her baby by emergency C-section before Jariah died at the hospital. Friends say Jariah\u2019s world revolved around her unborn daughter, a daughter now fighting for her own life.<\/p>\n \u201cShe was so excited. I feel like it gave her something to look forward to. Just all the stress and stuff, especially with that relationship,\u201d Amara said.<\/p>\n Police say 21-year-old Trevon Williams, who was her boyfriend, traveled separately to San Diego. Her friends say she was lured outside with flowers, describing Williams as a controlling boyfriend.<\/p>\n \u201cHe literally drained like the happiness from her,\u201d Samaya Corley said.<\/p>\n Williams fled the scene but was eventually arrested. He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday on charges of first-degree murder and attempted murder. Jail records show he is being held without bond.<\/p>\n \u201cWe didn\u2019t get enough time with her. Like no justice, no amount of years, like we\u2019ll make up for him taking her life away,\u201d Jamila said.<\/p>\n Prosecutors have until noon Wednesday to formally file their case ahead of the scheduled 1:30 p.m. arraignment.
