Plans are being put forward to create the world\u2019s first-ever \u201cfloating city,\u201d which would be powered by nuclear energy and have a capacity of 80,000 \u2013 dwarfing the finest cruise ships in the world.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Visions of the so-called Freedom Ship have existed since the 1990s, but they have been brought back to life once again \u2013 this time under Freedom Cruise Line CEO Roger Gooch, who told the Telegraph<\/a>, \u201cWe feel very confident that we can put this together, but capitalization is key.\u201d<\/p>\n

Should it come to reality, the megaship would dwarf anything produced by the likes of Royal Caribbean or Carnival Cruise Line.<\/p>\n

Plans have been touted to create a massive floating city that would be able to carry 80,000 people. Freedom Cruise Line International, Inc<\/p>\n

A proposed capacity of 80,000 people would dwarf Royal Caribbean\u2019s $2 billion Icon of the Seas<\/a>, which stands at a maximum of 7,600 guests and 2,350 crew members.<\/p>\n

Costing an estimated $16.16 billion (\u00a312 billion), there would be homes for around 50,000 people and room for 10,000 tourists, and these would be served by a 20,000-strong crew.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Freedom Ship is envisioned as a permanently mobile city at sea\u2014designed for long-term residence rather than short-term travel,\u201d Freedom Cruise International says<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is not a cruise ship and not defined by destinations or itineraries.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The top of the ship would have space for eight helicopters. Freedom Cruise Line International, Inc<\/p>\n

\u201cInstead, it is planned as a stable, self-contained urban environment that continuously circumnavigates the globe while supporting everyday life.\u201d<\/p>\n

The monster vessel would have the elements of a modern city \u2013 ranging from schools and colleges, to shops, banks, and night clubs.<\/p>\n

And, there would be a two-story food hall, satisfying the tastes of even the fussiest of eaters.<\/p>\n

The proposed ship is a mile long \u2013 and guests would be able to take advantage of a futuristic tram system that would connect all the different areas.<\/p>\n

A 15,000-seater sports stadium, water park, parks, convention center, a music hall, and two museums are even among the amenities suggested.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe started with the view that the ship should not be a monolithic piece but visually comfortable, so we softened all the edges,\u201d Gooch said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe also want it to breathe, so we\u2019ve gone to great lengths to allow walkways and green spaces.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLeisure aboard the Freedom Ship is not designed to feel exceptional,\u201d supporters behind the idea<\/a> say.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is meant to feel familiar, accessible, and unremarkable in the best sense\u2014an ordinary part of life within a city that happens to move.\u201d<\/p>\n

Divers wouldn\u2019t even have to leave the ship as it would be home to a huge aquarium.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The proposed vessel, which would be powered by nuclear fuel, would be too big for any dock on the planet and would stay in international waters.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s estimated it would circle the world every two to three years. <\/p>\n

A tram system to help guests move around has been proposed. Freedom Cruise Line International, Inc<\/p>\n

Passengers would be transported to and from land by a fleet of ferries, and there would be eight helipads on top.<\/p>\n

Ideas for the Freedom Ship were first touted by engineer Norman Nixon in the 1990s, but he died in 2012 and the plans went on the backburner.<\/p>\n

It could take up to four years for the ship to be completed, but Gooch suggested that the first residents could move onto the ship while the building work takes place.<\/p>\n

However, he still needs the funding to turn his dream into a reality.<\/p>\n

But, Sridev Mookerjea, a project manager at Singapore\u2019s Blossom Group, told the Telegraph, \u201cI believe that with Roger\u2019s efforts, patience and desire to make this a success, the sky\u2019s the limit.<\/p>\n
