WASHINGTON \u2014 Congressional Dads Caucus founder Rep. Jimmy Gomez (D-Calif.) confessed Tuesday that he cheated on his wife \u2014 after The Post in April revealed he was seen kissing a congressional aide outside a DC party<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Post\u2019s report unleashed a House Ethics Committee investigation that uncovered sordid new details \u2014 crushing Gomez\u2019s carefully crafted public image as a doting family man.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cYears ago, I made personal mistakes outside my marriage that have caused real pain to my wife and family,\u201d Gomez told CNN, describing the extramarital relations as \u201cconsensual.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI sincerely apologize to my wife, family, friends and the people that I have the privilege to serve.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Los Angeles Democrat was spotted making out with a much younger congressional aide for a different lawmaker outside the home of then-Rep. Eric Swalwell<\/a> (D-Calif.) ahead of the 2023 August recess.<\/p>\n

Gomez, who is married, was kissing the aide two decades his junior outside Swalwell\u2019s backyard bash.<\/p>\n

Attendees did not recall seeing Gomez\u2019s wife or then-11-month-old son at the party.<\/p>\n

Just months prior, Gomez in January 2023 launched the Dads Caucus and wore his baby son<\/a> in a sling around his neck during marathon votes for House speaker.<\/p>\n

\u201c<\/strong>Dads need to do more of our part both at home and in Congress advocating for policies that uplift parents and children,\u201d his caucus website declares.<\/p>\n

While trumpeting his family role, sources said Gomez, Swalwell and Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) were busy boozing and behaving boorishly as members of the so-called \u201cCool Kids Clique.\u201d<\/p>\n

Swalwell resigned in disgrace following a series of sexual misconduct allegations against him earlier this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis guy [Gomez] is a sleazebag. He should resign and use his free time to trade war stories with Swalwell,\u201d said one Democratic source familiar with the matter.<\/p>\n

Gomez and the younger Hill staffer were seen kissing by a stunned group of Democratic congressional aides, two of whom recounted their surprise to The Post. A third source heard of Gomez\u2019s alleged relationship with the woman from additional Democratic sources.<\/p>\n

Gomez, a close Swalwell friend, strongly denied The Post\u2019s reporting in April and his confession did not specify particular wrongdoing.<\/p>\n

A spokesman did not immediately offer comment on whether he was confessing to the relationship reported by The Post \u2014 after his blanket denials.<\/p>\n

Gomez, who represents a heavily Democratic district in Los Angeles, also gave no indication that he planned to resign.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlthough my actions were consensual in nature and haven\u2019t violated the law or House ethics rules, that doesn\u2019t diminish the impact that these mistakes have made on those I care about the most,\u201d Gomez said in his statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cI take full responsibility and have committed myself to working through the pain privately with my wife and family.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gomez said he was taking action to remedy his misconduct.<\/p>\n

\u201cI sought professional assistance to help re-center and heal the relationships that mean everything to me, and move forward with the honesty, transparency, and respect that everyone deserves from the people they love. I continue to do this work,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Gomez\u2019s best-known challenger for re-election is Angela Gonzales-Torres, who has the support of the left-wing Justice Democrats and the California Working Families Party. The two could face off in the Nov. 3 election due to California\u2019s non-partisan runoff system.<\/p>\n
