{"id":841647,"date":"2026-06-03T14:24:20","date_gmt":"2026-06-03T14:24:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/841647\/"},"modified":"2026-06-03T14:24:20","modified_gmt":"2026-06-03T14:24:20","slug":"idf-strike-reported-near-beirut-sirens-blare-in-north-after-peace-talks-in-dc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/841647\/","title":{"rendered":"IDF strike reported near Beirut, sirens blare in north after peace talks in DC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lebanese media reported on Wednesday that an Israeli strike hit a car on a highway just south of the capital, Beirut, as the Hezbollah terror group continued its attacks on Israeli troops and civilians despite a nominal ceasefire.<\/p>\n<p>An apparent Hezbollah drone and two rockets fired by the terror group at northern Israel\u2019s Galilee Panhandle on Wednesday were intercepted by air defenses, the Israel Defense Forces said.<\/p>\n<p>Israeli leaders have threatened that the IDF would target Beirut\u2019s southern suburbs, a Hezbollah stronghold, if the Iran-backed terror group targets Israeli communities.<\/p>\n<p>There was no immediate comment from the IDF on the strike that hit a car on a highway near the town of in the town of Khalde, at the capital\u2019s southern entrance.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, two vehicles were reportedly targeted in the southern Lebanese town of Deir ez-Zahrani, including one belonging to the Lebanese army. The strike on the Lebanese military vehicle wounded an officer and a soldier, the Lebanese Armed Forces says in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\tGet The Times of Israel&#8217;s Daily Edition<br \/>\n\t\t\tby email and never miss our top stories\n\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\tBy signing up, you agree to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/terms\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">terms<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Israel has said it is only targeting the Hezbollah terror group and not the Lebanese army, despite IDF strikes occasionally hitting members of the LAF amid the fighting.<\/p>\n<p>The IDF has not commented on the latest strike that wounded the two Lebanese soldiers, nor on a similar strike yesterday in the same area that wounded two other Lebanese soldiers.<\/p>\n<p>The state-run National News Agency reported strikes on around 20 locations in the country\u2019s south on Wednesday, including some after the IDF issued evacuation warnings.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, a medical source in south Lebanon\u2019s Tyre told AFP that two Israeli strikes on the Al-Hawsh area near the coastal city killed six people \u2014 four Syrian nationals and two Palestinians.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday morning, the IDF issued evacuation warnings for six villages and towns in southern Lebanon ahead of airstrikes targeting Hezbollah.<\/p>\n<p>Residents of Arzay, Mazraat Kauthariyet al-Rez, and Zrariyeh were instructed to evacuate and head north of the Zahrani River, and residents of Jbaa, Houmine al-Faouqa, and Arkey were instructed to evacuate at least a kilometer away.<\/p>\n<p>\t<a href=\"https:\/\/static-cdn.toi-media.com\/www\/uploads\/2026\/06\/AP26153531228738-1.jpg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-3835694\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/AP26153531228738-1-640x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"375\"\/><\/a><br \/>\n\t\tPeople swim on a public beach as smoke, background, rises from an Israeli airstrike that hit the Qlaileh village, seen from the southern port city of Tyre, Lebanon, Tuesday, June 2, 2026. Avichay Adraee.<\/p>\n<p>IDF intercepts two rockets, suspected drone launched at north<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, a suspected Hezbollah drone launched from Lebanon was intercepted by air defenses over the Kiryat Shmona area late Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n<p>The drone and concern of falling shrapnel following the interception triggered sirens in the northern city and nearby communities.<\/p>\n<p>Hours later, two rockets launched by Hezbollah from Lebanon at the nearby border community of Misgav Am were intercepted by air defenses, the military said.<\/p>\n<p>No injuries were reported in the attacks.<\/p>\n<p>The IDF Home Front Command had announced on Tuesday evening that it would ease safety restrictions in communities along the northern border.<\/p>\n<p>The Galilee Medical Center in the northern coastal town of Nahariya announced that, in light of the changing security situation, the hospital was \u201conce again returning aboveground.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The hospital staff had brought all the inpatient wards to the hospital\u2019s protected areas on Saturday, as a security measure amid the Hezbollah attacks.<\/p>\n<p>\t<a href=\"https:\/\/static-cdn.toi-media.com\/www\/uploads\/2026\/06\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-06-03-at-12.18.00.jpeg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-3835673\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-06-03-at-12.18.00-640x400.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"375\"\/><\/a><br \/>\n\t\tA Galilee Medical Center staff member wheels a patient back to an above-ground ward on June 3, 2026. (Galilee Medical Center\/Shelli Chaika)<\/p>\n<p>A new round of talks between the Israeli and Lebanese ambassadors was held in Washington on Tuesday, after US President Donald Trump said he had received commitments of de-escalation from both Jerusalem and Hezbollah.<\/p>\n<p>It was the fourth round of talks to be held by diplomatic representatives of the two countries, which do not have ties and have been in a state of war since 1948. They were held at the State Department and were set to continue on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Trump confirms calling PM \u2018f***ing crazy\u2019<\/p>\n<p>In an interview aired Wednesday, Trump confirmed that he called Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu \u201cfucking crazy\u201d during a Monday phone call about Israel\u2019s conflict with Hezbollah.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was a little bit perturbed at his constantly fighting with Lebanon,\u201d Trump told podcast host Miranda Devine, while noting, \u201cI like Bibi a lot. (Kent NISHIMURA \/ AFP)<\/p>\n<p>The latest round of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah began on March 2, when Hezbollah fired rockets into northern Israel two days after the US and Israel attacked its main backer, Iran.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, 26 IDF soldiers and one Defense Ministry civilian contractor have been killed in southern Lebanon, 14 of them since a ceasefire was declared on April 16.
