{"id":84185,"date":"2025-07-22T21:19:10","date_gmt":"2025-07-22T21:19:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/84185\/"},"modified":"2025-07-22T21:19:10","modified_gmt":"2025-07-22T21:19:10","slug":"trump-claims-new-cbs-owner-will-gift-him-20m-worth-of-airtime-after-16m-settlement-donald-trump","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/84185\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump claims new CBS owner will gift him $20m worth of airtime after $16m settlement | Donald Trump"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/donaldtrump\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Donald Trump<\/a> has claimed that the future owner of the US TV network CBS will provide him with $20m worth of advertising and programming \u2013 days after the network <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/tv-and-radio\/2025\/jul\/18\/the-late-show-with-stephen-colbert-to-end-in-2026-as-cbs-cancels-show\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">canceled<\/a> The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">The US president recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/media\/2025\/jul\/02\/paramount-settles-with-trump-for-16m-over-60-minutes-interview-with-kamala-harris\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reached a $16m settlement<\/a> with Paramount, the parent of CBS News, over what he claimed was misleading editing of a pre-election interview with the Democratic candidate for president, Kamala Harris.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">While <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/media\/cbs\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CBS<\/a> initially called the lawsuit \u201ccompletely without merit\u201d, a view shared by many legal experts, Paramount is in the midst of an $8bn sale to the Hollywood studio Skydance Media, which requires the approval of federal regulators.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump claimed the settlement had been paid \u2013 and that he was expecting much more from the new owners of Paramount.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">\u201cParamount\/CBS\/60 Minutes have today paid $16 Million Dollars in settlement, and we also anticipate receiving $20 Million Dollars more from the new Owners, in Advertising, PSAs [public service announcements], or similar Programming, for a total of over $36 Million Dollars,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">CBS and Skydance did not immediately respond to requests for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">Trump\u2019s claim that he has been offered millions of dollars\u2019 worth of programming is likely to exacerbate anger over the axing of The Late Show, which CBS announced on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">Days earlier, Colbert, a high-profile critic of Trump, had branded Paramount\u2019s settlement with Trump \u201ca big fat bribe\u201d. He is due to remain on air until May, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/tv-and-radio\/2025\/jul\/22\/stephen-colbert-trump-cbs-bribe\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">declared<\/a> on Monday that \u201cthe gloves are off\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">Skydance was founded in 2010 by David Ellison, son of the tech billionaire Larry Ellison, co-founder of Oracle, and an ally of Trump.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">The $16m settlement was already seen by critics as a further example of capitulation by media companies hoping to smooth the waters with the US president.
