{"id":841902,"date":"2026-06-03T17:11:27","date_gmt":"2026-06-03T17:11:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/841902\/"},"modified":"2026-06-03T17:11:27","modified_gmt":"2026-06-03T17:11:27","slug":"slovenia-turns-away-israeli-passenger-jet-forcing-it-to-land-in-neighboring-croatia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/841902\/","title":{"rendered":"Slovenia turns away Israeli passenger jet, forcing it to land in neighboring Croatia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Slovenian authorities denied an Israeli passenger plane permission to land in the country\u2019s capital on Wednesday as a protest against Israeli government policy.<\/p>\n<p>The Israir Airlines jet was forced to divert to an airstrip in neighboring Croatia.<\/p>\n<p>The Foreign Ministry denounced the incident as \u201ccompletely unacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The plane arrived at Ljubljana Airport, but air traffic controllers refused to let it touch down, according to Hebrew media reports.<\/p>\n<p>Israir director Uri Sirkis called it a \u201cblatant violation of European Union aviation agreements.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\tGet The Times of Israel&#8217;s Daily Edition<br \/>\n\t\t\tby email and never miss our top stories\n\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\tBy signing up, you agree to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/terms\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">terms<\/a><\/p>\n<p>He said Slovenian authorities are refusing to let any Israeli carriers land, \u201cbecause they are strongly opposed, politically, to the Israeli government line.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Israel\u2019s Foreign Ministry and Civil Aviation Authority reportedly worked to resolve the issue, without success.<\/p>\n<p>The Foreign Ministry said in a statement, \u201cIsrael clarified to the Slovenian authorities that it is a completely unacceptable decision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\t<a href=\"https:\/\/static-cdn.toi-media.com\/www\/uploads\/2026\/06\/F260510YS124.jpg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-3835758\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/F260510YS124-640x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"375\"\/><\/a><br \/>\n\t\tUri Sirkis, CEO of Israir Airlines attends Economic Committee meeting at the Knesset, on May 10, 2026. (Yonatan Sindel\/Flash90)<\/p>\n<p>The ministry noted that Slovenia is in the process of establishing a new government \u201cinstead of the outgoing, hostile government, and Israel expects a significant improvement in the relations between the countries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Transportation Minister Miri Regev said in a statement that it is \u201can invalid political decision that directly impacts Israeli citizens.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnyone who tries to boycott us via aviation needs to understand that there will be consequences,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Regev said Israel will use \u201call tools available to it\u201d to deal with the issue.<\/p>\n<p>Israir has three weekly scheduled flights to Ljubljana, and there are no other carriers offering a similar direct flight. (Avshalom Sassoni\/Flash90)<\/p>\n<p>Last month, Slovenia\u2019s parliament <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/slovenia-changes-path-as-pro-israel-trump-admiring-former-pm-janez-jansa-retakes-helm\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">voted to bring back<\/a> former nationalist premier Janez Jansa, electing him as prime minister once more.<\/p>\n<p>Jansa is an admirer of US President Donald Trump and a supporter of Israel.
