America’s biggest fast food chain is setting its sights on a new outpost in Central Texas.\u00a0McDonald’s<\/a> is planning to build a $1.5 million restaurant in the Capital City.<\/p>\n

A recent Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) filing<\/a> reveals McDonald’s will begin work on a new restaurant on the Southeast corner of\u00a0East Braker Lane\u00a0and Wedgewood Drive in North Austin. While this new McDonald’s will serve a growing part of the city, the nationwide chain’s “happy meals” will also have to compete with some of the local food spots in the area.<\/p>\n

The upcoming Braker Lane McDonald’s will be located across the street from\u00a0Vazquez, a beloved neighborhood Mexican restaurant, and near El Kioskito Cubano,\u00a0Tortilleria Rio Grande and Chicago Slice Pizza. It will also be within minutes of Whataburger<\/a>, located off of the North Interstate 35 service road just south of\u00a0Braker Lane.<\/p>\n

Construction on the new McDonald’s begins in January 2027 and is expected to be completed by July 1, 2027. However, all TDLR filings are subject to change at any time.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The scope of work for the project includes the “new construction” of a 4,229-square-foot McDonald’s restaurant. McDonald’s already has a presence in the Austin area and currently operates 31 locations in the city, according to DoorDash<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Texas is home to the most McDonald’s locations in the U.S., with 1,266 restaurants, per data from\u00a0Locations Cloud<\/a>.
