She told\u00a0D,\u00a0&#8220;I can&#8217;t do recovery and run Beatrice.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s an immense loss for Dallas, as Carpenter had two important missions outside of the typical restaurant operation: She made strides to empower and educate women leaders in restaurants, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/2025\/09\/10\/sustainable-restaurant-beatrice-dallas-environmentally-friendly-food-d-fw\/\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">she worked to lower Beatrice&#8217;s carbon footprint<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Dallas Morning News wondered if Beatrice&#8217;s sustainability efforts, including the &#8220;unglamorous work of dumping buckets of eggshells, coffee grounds and all manner of kitchen scraps into an industrial composter,&#8221; as writer Claire Ballor described, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/2024\/07\/17\/michelin-guide-texas-list-best-restaurants-dallas-fort-worth\/\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">would make the restaurant a candidate for a Michelin Green Star<\/a>, its honor for environmentalism.<\/p>\n<p>Carpenter was passionate about uplifting women in restaurants because she worked kitchens dominated by men,\u00a0our Imelda Garc\u00eda reported in 2025. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/2023\/06\/16\/these-lgbtq-chefs-help-fuel-dallas-food-scene\/\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Carpenter faced &#8220;triple discrimination,&#8221;<\/a> Garc\u00eda said: &#8220;as a woman, Japanese American and member of the LGBTQ community.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Carpenter&#8217;s Women in Restaurants Leadership Program was a tuition-free course designed to close the gender gap among leaders of restaurants in Dallas-Fort Worth.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Beatrice, Carpenter owns Zen Sushi in Oak Cliff. (Zen will not close, D reported.)<\/p>\n<p>The closure of Beatrice means Dallas loses a place to eat a plate of Viet-Cajun charbroiled oysters, catfish Atchafalaya,\u00a0Mammaw&#8217;s fried chicken and vegan gumbo.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But it also means Dallas loses a place for a pioneering chef to make big moves to help her community.<\/p>\n<p>Restaurant Beatrice is expected to close after brunch on Sunday, June 7, 2026, D reported.<\/p>\n<p>Restaurant Beatrice is at 1111\u00a0N.
