A star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame will be unveiled Thursday honoring actor Keith David for his movie career with Mayor Karen Bass set to join him in speaking.<\/p>\n

John Carpenter, John C. McGinley, Lynn Whitfield and Councilman Hugo Soto-Martinez are also set to speak at the 11:30 a.m. ceremony next to the Pantages Theatre.<\/p>\n

Carpenter directed David in the 1982 science fiction horror film \u201cThe Thing\u201d and the 1988 science fiction action horror film \u201cThey Live.\u201d<\/p>\n

David and McGinley were castmates in three films \u2014 1986 anti-war film \u201cPlatoon\u201d; the 1992 comedy-drama \u201cArticle 99\u201d; and the 1996 drama \u201cJohns.\u201d They were also castmates in the 1993 made-for-television movie, \u201cThe Last Outlaw.\u201d<\/p>\n

David and Whitfield were castmates in the 2003 Chris Rock-starring political comedy \u201cHead of State\u201d and the 2016 film about slavery and the underground railroad, \u201cThe North Star.\u201d They also co-starred as husband and wife in the 2016-20 Oprah Winfrey Network drama \u201cGreenleaf.\u2019<\/p>\n

The ceremony comes on David\u2019s 70th birthday.<\/p>\n

The star will be next to the star of Nat King Cole. David portrayed the legendary singer in the touring theatrical and musical tribute shows \u201cToo Marvelous for Words: A Celebration of Nat King Cole\u201d and \u201dLet There Be Love.\u201d<\/p>\n

The star is the 2,847th since the completion of the Walk of Fame in 1961 with the initial 1,558 stars.<\/p>\n

Born June 4, 1956, in Harlem and raised in the Corona neighborhood of the New York borough of Queens, David once said, \u201cI wanted to be an actor when I was 2 years old.\u201d<\/p>\n

David graduated from Manhattan\u2019s High School of Performing Arts in 1975 and the Juilliard School in 1979. In 1980-81, he toured the country with John Houseman\u2019s The Acting Company in productions of \u201cA Midsummer Night\u2019s Dream\u201d and \u201cWaiting for Godot.\u201d<\/p>\n

David\u2019s other early-career credits include nine episodes of \u201cMister Rogers\u2019 Neighborhood\u201d as Keith the Handyman from 1983-85.<\/p>\n

David\u2019s other film credits include \u201cDead Presidents,\u201d \u201cArmageddon,\u201d \u201cThere\u2019s Something About Mary,\u201d \u201cRequiem for a Dream,\u201d \u201cPitch Black,\u201d \u201cBarbershop,\u201d \u201cCrash,\u201d \u201cThe Chronicles of Riddick,\u201d \u201cCloud Atlas,\u201d \u201cThe Nice Guys\u201d and \u201cNope.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2024, he received an outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture Screen Actors Guild Awards nomination for his work in \u201cAmerican Fiction.\u201d<\/p>\n

David\u2019s television credits include recurring roles in \u201cER\u201d and \u201cCommunity.\u201d<\/p>\n

David has received acclaimed for his work as a narrator and voice in animation. He received two Emmys for outstanding voce-over performance for \u201cUnforgivable Blackness: The Rise And Fall Of Jack Johnson\u201d in 2005 and \u201cThe War\u201d in 2008.<\/p>\n

When the category was separated in 2014 into outstanding narrator and outstanding character voice-over performance, he won for outstanding narrator in 2016 for \u201cJackie Robinson.\u201d<\/p>\n
