{"id":8448,"date":"2025-06-23T16:35:13","date_gmt":"2025-06-23T16:35:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/8448\/"},"modified":"2025-06-23T16:35:13","modified_gmt":"2025-06-23T16:35:13","slug":"theory-proposing-three-dimensional-time-as-the-primary-fabric-of-everything-could-unify-quantum-physics-and-gravity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/8448\/","title":{"rendered":"Theory Proposing Three-Dimensional Time as the \u201cPrimary Fabric of Everything\u201d Could Unify Quantum Physics and Gravity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) scientist has proposed a \u201cthree-dimensional time\u201d theory that replaces the traditional model of one dimension of <a href=\"https:\/\/thedebrief.org\/brain-cells-are-responsible-for-why-you-perceive-time-new-study-reveals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">time<\/a> and three physical dimensions as the primary <a href=\"https:\/\/thedebrief.org\/quantum-spacetime-measured-in-an-major-step-to-understanding-the-fabric-of-reality\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">fabric of everything<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike <a href=\"https:\/\/thedebrief.org\/new-superluminal-theory-transforms-our-concept-of-time-with-extension-of-special-relativity\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">previously proposed<\/a>, purely mathematical \u20183D time\u2019 constructs where space emerges as a secondary manifestation, Professor Gunther Kletetschka at the UAF Geophysical Institute says his <a href=\"https:\/\/thedebrief.org\/einsteins-unified-field-theory-realized-new-theory-unites-electromagnetism-and-gravity-through-geometry\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">theory of everything<\/a>, which could <a href=\"https:\/\/thedebrief.org\/new-math-brings-us-one-step-closer-to-unifying-einsteins-relativity-and-quantum-physics\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">unify quantum physics and gravity,<\/a> is testable and verifiable.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEarlier 3D time proposals were primarily mathematical constructs without these concrete experimental connections,\u201d Professor Kletetschka explained. \u201cMy work transforms the concept from an interesting mathematical possibility into a physically testable theory with multiple independent verification channels.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Three-Dimensional Time as the Fabric of Everything<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Over a century ago, scientists developed the idea of <a href=\"https:\/\/thedebrief.org\/black-holes-tear-apart-and-devour-spacetime-much-faster-than-previously-assumed-new-study-shows\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">spacetime<\/a>, where the three dimensions of space, represented by spatial X, Y, and Z axes, and the single dimension of time, often referred to as \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/thedebrief.org\/researchers-untangle-arrow-of-time-mystery-in-groundbreaking-new-physics-study\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the arrow of time<\/a>,\u201d work together to create the underlying fabric of reality. Although physics theories that use the conventional definition of <a href=\"https:\/\/thedebrief.org\/quantum-spacetime-measured-in-an-major-step-to-understanding-the-fabric-of-reality\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">spacetime<\/a> have proven adept at explaining much of what we see and experience, scientists still struggle to create a single, unifying <a href=\"https:\/\/thedebrief.org\/scientists-propose-breakthrough-model-for-the-long-sought-theory-of-everything\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">theory of everything<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The three-dimensional time model proposed by Kletetschka in Reports in Advances of Physical Sciences seeks to correct this discrepancy by replacing the traditional four dimensions with six combined dimensions of time and space. A statement announcing the published study detailing this new 3D time theory highlights how the concept might differ from traditional spacetime models.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cImagine you are walking down a straight path, moving forward and therefore experiencing time as we know it,\u201d the statement explains. \u201cNow imagine another path that crosses the first one, going sideways. If you could step onto that sideways path and remain in the same moment of \u201cregular time,\u201d you might find that things could be slightly different \u2014 perhaps a different version of the same day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In Kletetschka\u2019s theory, this \u201csecondary\u201d path could allow one to explore different outcomes of the same day without moving forward or backward in time on the forward\/backward axis. Those alternate outcomes would represent the professor\u2019s second proposed dimension of time. The transition between potential outcomes represents the third dimension.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese three time dimensions are the primary fabric of everything, like the canvas of a painting,\u201d Kletetschka explained. \u201cSpace still exists with its three dimensions, but it\u2019s more like the paint on the canvas rather than the canvas itself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Unifying Quantum Physics and Gravity<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kletetschka says his model overcomes several problems faced by the previous three-dimensional time theories based on traditional <a href=\"https:\/\/thedebrief.org\/category\/physics\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">physics<\/a>. For example, the multiple time dimensions described in previous models include cause-and-effect relationships that the professor described as potentially ambiguous. Conversely, causes still precede effects in his theory, \u201cjust in a more complex mathematical structure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Theoretical physicist Itzhak Bars of the University of Southern California and others believe the newly proposed three-dimensional time theory might reveal itself in extremely <a href=\"https:\/\/thedebrief.org\/tag\/high-energy\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">high-energy<\/a> environments like <a href=\"https:\/\/thedebrief.org\/ghosts-of-the-early-universe-reveal-clues-and-controversies-about-the-formation-of-galaxies\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the early universe<\/a>. \u00a0\u00a0If confirmed, they also think Kletetschka\u2019s theory could help physicists answer questions \u201cthat have stumped scientists.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\t\t&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/thedebrief.org\/anomalous-tracks-in-astronomical-imagery-originally-dismissed-as-noise-could-be-something-else-entirely\/\" class=\"mask-img\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">&#13;<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"120\" height=\"120\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Cosmic-Ray-Showers-Low-Res_image3-120x120.jpg\" class=\"attachment-codetipi-15zine-120-120 size-codetipi-15zine-120-120 wp-post-image lazyload\" alt=\"anomalous tracks cosmic ray showers\"  data- style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 120px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 120\/120;\"\/>\t\t\t<\/a><br \/>\n\t\t&#13;<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps the most tantalizing aspect of the 3D time theory is its potential to bridge the divide between <a href=\"https:\/\/thedebrief.org\/tag\/quantum-mechanics\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">quantum mechanics<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/thedebrief.org\/tag\/gravity\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">gravity<\/a> to create one single theory of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/thedebrief.org\/experimental-quantum-gravity-bridging-the-gap-between-quantum-mechanics-and-general-relativity\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">quantum gravity<\/a>.\u201d This idea would unite the four fundamental forces of nature, the force of gravity, <a href=\"https:\/\/thedebrief.org\/tag\/electromagnetism\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">electromagnetism<\/a>, and the<a href=\"https:\/\/thedebrief.org\/nuclear-force-in-question-as-physicists-report-observation-that-could-challenge-our-current-understanding\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> strong and weak nuclear forces<\/a>, into one \u201ctheory of everything,\u201d capable of describing the nature of <a href=\"https:\/\/thedebrief.org\/is-reality-an-illusion-new-research-explores-perception-ability-to-influence-physical-responses\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">all reality<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Because the professor\u2019s three-dimensional time theory successfully reproduces the known masses of particles such as <a href=\"https:\/\/thedebrief.org\/tag\/electrons\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">electrons<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/thedebrief.org\/worlds-most-powerful-supercollider-ever-takes-huge-leap-forward-following-muon-beam-breakthrough\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">muons<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/thedebrief.org\/cern-experiment-reveals-spooky-action-at-a-distance-persists-between-top-quarks\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">quarks<\/a> and explains why these particles have these masses, he believes his unconventional approach may be up to the task.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe path to unification might require fundamentally reconsidering the nature of physical reality itself,\u201d Kletetschka said. \u201cThis theory demonstrates how viewing time as three-dimensional can naturally resolve multiple physics puzzles through a single coherent mathematical framework.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Christopher Plain is a Science Fiction and Fantasy novelist and Head Science Writer at The Debrief.
