A cyclist was fatally struck by a car in the city\u2019s Bridgeport neighborhood Friday afternoon, authorities said.<\/p>\n
The cyclist, a 35-year-old man, was riding a bicycle in the 3200 block of South Halsted Street when he was struck by a vehicle in traffic around 4:40 p.m., according to Chicago police. The man was transported to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity wasn\u2019t immediately released.<\/p>\n
According to a police source and a witness, the cyclist was traveling north on Halsted when the driver of a white sedan opened the car\u2019s door. The cyclist swerved to avoid the door but still clipped it and was thrown to the street, sources said. A witness told the Tribune the cyclist was then run over by a large truck.<\/p>\n
The police Major Accidents Investigation Unit was investigating.<\/p>\n
