Caitlin Clark<\/a> discusses using her competitiveness to constantly improve herself.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, Indiana suffered a 100-84 loss<\/a> to the Portland Fire, and one of the biggest stories from that game was the heated moment<\/a> between Clark and Coach Stephanie White.<\/p>\n

But Clark quickly clarified the incident, stating that it was only a product of her competitiveness.<\/p>\n

“I think it’s something I can always work on,” Clark said about her passion on the court during her pre-game availability on Friday<\/a>. “And you go back and you look in the mirror, and I’m competitive and I have an edge.”<\/p>\n

The former No. 1 overall pick was plagued by foul trouble throughout the game against Portland, which added to her frustration.<\/p>\n

“And I think at the same time, that’s what makes me great,” she continued. “But it’s sometimes, it’s not something you always love too. I think there’s ways you can still learn to channel it and make it better.”<\/p>\n

Eventually, she ended the game with six points, two rebounds and six assists. It was her first non-double-digit output since June 2025.<\/p>\n

“But at the same time, that competitive fire, and that drive, and that passion, and that joy, and that edge, that’s what people come to watch,” she said. “That’s what they love. It’s not always gonna be pretty.”<\/p>\n

But Clark is optimistic about how she could use this fire to make her teammates around her better. She talked about crossing the line during games, which she feels is something that is not unique to her.<\/p>\n

“And you look at some of the best players around the world, or some of the best players that have ever played this game, they’re fierce. They’re fiery, they’re competitive,” Clark pointed out.<\/p>\n

“Sometimes they maybe cross the line, but that doesn’t make you a bad person. That doesn’t make you a bad teammate.<\/p>\n

“You go back and you reflect and you take accountability. And you find ways to channel that and use that to motivate your team, or motivate yourself, or get the crowd behind you.”<\/p>\n

Clark played with that same competitive edge on Friday against the Atlanta Dream. She finished with 17 points, seven rebounds and eight assists to lead Indiana to an 83-71 victory.<\/p>\n

Clark plays with her heart on her sleeve, which she knows is both a blessing and a curse.<\/p>\n
