But in the lasting words of a 1990s philosopher, “Settle down, Beavis.” We’re proud to say that we did the homework everyone else brushed past.

Elsewhere in the Daily, the big news reported by multiple sources was that the mysterious Montreal Canadiens trade at the deadline was actually agreed to and submitted, but it looks like the Toronto Maple Leafs were one minute late and the trade was rejected. There’s also a report that Montreal GM Kent Hughes gave now-former Toronto GM Brad Treliving a verbal beatdown on the phone for his failure. There’s more in the NHL trade rumors, and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins will face elimination tomorrow after losing Game 5 in Toronto.

Let’s get right to it today.

Pittsburgh Penguins

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Dylan Larkin. Actual trade cost, not just amateur GM’ing. We grabbed not a shovel but a backhoe and really dug into all sides and, more importantly, the realities of a potential Larkin – Penguins trade.

Yes, the Larkin reaction made me laugh, but, quite frankly, I’m proud of you. PHN made no advocation in any direction, but when you saw the cost, you took to social media like you were trying to stop an evil condo development from bulldozing a church. I’d caution that too many of you transposed me doing the work for me advocating it be done, but your reasons for objecting were correct. I must say, it was the first time in this offseason that I watched a reaction and thought, “Hmm, learn well you have.” If you haven’t, definitely read the above story.

And, to make my late afternoon screw off session professional, I laid down the pros and cons and analytical work of the Larkin stuff in video form … from the riverbank in Ohiopyle.

WBS Penguins: A rough night for the Penguins prospects as the game got away from them and they lost Game 5. The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins will face elimination tomorrow at Mohegan Arena. Here’s the game story.

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

Montreal Hockey Now: Wow–the trade was real. Matthew Knies was headed to Montreal for a boatload of assets, but the trade was submitted at 3:01 p.m. No good. So, the NHL rejected it. Here are the details of the blockbuster Canadiens trade.

As the details are leaking, there’s more from our boys at Montreal Hockey Now. It is reported that when Hughes realized what had happened, he let Treliving have it. Elliotte Friedman danced around this report, but here’s the story of the Montreal Canadiens reaction.

NHLtraderumors.me: It seems Montreal were busy bees at the NHL trade deadline. Did they also kick tires but reject a trade offer for Alex Lafreniere?

TSN: Gavin McKenna is excited for the chance to be No. 1, and here is the story from two angles. First, the national media is focusing on Toronto GM John Chayka is going north–way north–to Whitehorse to meet with McKenna.

NittanySportsNow: Our cousin site in State College is at the NHL Combine in Buffalo (and will have some stuff for us today), but Kyle Golik had some good questions for McKenna, who talked about enjoying his college life and experiences at Penn State.

Sportsnet: Interestingly, the NCAA has come to its senses and is revising its planned rule changes–which the NHL and CHL were very much against–for college hockey eligibility.

Newsbreak: The NHL is saying goodbye to a popular figure on the inside, Cliff Fletcher, who passed away at 90. It looks like Marcus Johansson’s time in Minnesota is done, and he is going to sign in Sweden, the Nashville Predators hired Rob Blake as executive VP of hockey operations, Nick Suzuki won the Selke Trophy (no surprise), and Cole Caufield won the Lady Byng.

I never know who to vote for in the Lady Byng voting. I wish writers didn’t vote on that one. How do I know who is the most gentlemanly on the ice? A player might only have four penalty minutes all season but the dirtiest chirps in history. We’d never know!

Tags: dylan larkin matthew knies nhl trade Pittsburgh Penguins

Categorized:Links NHL Trade Rumors Pittsburgh Penguins

Oh boy, some people lost their minds when Pittsburgh Hockey Now dug into the latest NHL trade chatter…

[42
108086,1298,293,10218,1334,62,67,132,68
post-848665","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-nhl","tag-dylan-larkin","tag-matthew-knies","tag-nhl","tag-nhl-trade","tag-pittsburgh-penguins","tag-sports","tag-united-states","tag-unitedstates","tag-us
["GET
