Jared Polis <a href=\"https:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/2024\/11\/16\/denver-pedestrian-bridge-jared-polis-civic-center\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on his proposal<\/a> to build a pedestrian walkway across Lincoln Street in front of the Colorado Capitol revealed that 94% of participants opposed the idea. Just 4% said they supported it and 2% said they were a \u201cmaybe\u201d on the plan, which was estimated to cost nearly $30 million.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Nearly 90,000 people participated in the online poll, which was run by the governor\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p>The survey did not have the controls of a scientific poll, including efforts to make sure it was representative of people across the state from different age and political backgrounds. But for what it lacked in precision the survey made up for in a political safety net for the governor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will commit my time and effort to prevent this walkway from being built, even if I have to chain myself to the Capitol Plaza to stop it!\u201d Polis said on Facebook of the bridge that he proposed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"771\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/state_of_state_JP-4-1200x771.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-421524\"  \/>Colorado Gov. (Jesse Paul, The Colorado Sun)<\/p>\n<p>The bridge was the governor\u2019s idea to celebrate the state\u2019s 150th anniversary.
