The devil population has declined by nearly 85% since the late 1990s, according to the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance.

The primary factor for the decline is Devil Facial Tumor Disease, an infectious cancer that is almost 100% fatal. The infectious condition has spread widely across native populations, the zoo said.

However, the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance said the global species population is seeing a rebound with the help of research and conservation programs, including the zoo’s Australian Forest Conservation Hub.

The San Diego Zoo has welcomed two male Tasmanian devil brothers, Jetsam and Flotsam, the zoo announced Tuesday.…

[5134
5229,14430,1582,276,3549,11414,7264,67,586,132,5230,68,2969
0":"post-84977","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-san-diego","8":"tag-america","9":"tag-animals-and-wildlife","10":"tag-ca","11":"tag-california","12":"tag-san-diego","13":"tag-san-diego-zoo","14":"tag-sandiego","15":"tag-united-states","16":"tag-united-states-of-america","17":"tag-unitedstates","18":"tag-unitedstatesofamerica","19":"tag-us","20":"tag-usa
["GET
