Israel on Sunday carried out airstrikes in Beirut, with the military saying it targeted a Hezbollah headquarters in the group\u2019s stronghold of Dahiyeh, a large suburb just south of the Lebanese capital.<\/p>\n

Two people were killed and at least 11 were wounded in strikes, Lebanon\u2019s National News Agency reported, adding that two apartments in two separate buildings were targeted.<\/p>\n

Images of the aftermath showed several apartment buildings heavily damaged.<\/p>\n

Iran threatened to retaliate, saying, \u201cWatch the sky of the occupied territories tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the Saudi al-Hadath channel, Israel updated the United States ahead of the strikes. Israel has largely refrained from striking Beirut during the current conflict, at the request of the White House, which fears it would harm Washington\u2019s efforts to secure a ceasefire and future nuclear deal with Iran, which is conditioning any agreement on a truce in Lebanon.<\/p>\n

The last Israeli strike in the capital occurred on May 28,<\/a> which was itself the first strike in the city in over three weeks.<\/p>\n

Announcing the strikes, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz said they came in response to the terror group\u2019s rocket fire on northern Israel Sunday morning, the first rockets fired at Israel since Wednesday, and the first since a porous ceasefire in Lebanon was renewed<\/a> last week.\n<\/p>\n

Sirens had sounded in the border communities of Yiftah and Ramot Naftali amid the attack. The military said it intercepted two rockets that were fired at Israel.<\/p>\n

Israeli leaders have vowed that the military would strike in Beirut if Hezbollah attacked Israel during the ostensible ceasefire.<\/p>\n

The Israel Defense Forces later published footage showing the airstrike. The IDF said it struck a Hezbollah headquarters from which terror operatives advanced attacks on Israel and troops in southern Lebanon, in response to the Hezbollah rocket attack earlier in the day.<\/p>\n

Reacting to the strikes, a senior Iranian parliament member promised a \u201cpainful and decisive response.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis rabid dog must be disciplined and put in its place. Watch the sky of the occupied territories tonight,\u201d Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesperson for the Iranian parliament\u2019s foreign policy and national security committee, posted on X.<\/p>\n

Iran considers all of Israel \u201coccupied territories.\u201d<\/p>\n

The IRGC-affiliated Saberin news outlet also reported that Iran would respond.<\/p>\n

Iran\u2019s parliament speaker, Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf, said that the US naval blockade of Iran and its reported green light for Israel to attack Beirut made US bases and Israeli assets in the Middle East legitimate targets.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey are neither committed to a ceasefire nor believe in dialogue, and through the naval blockade and violation of agreements regarding Lebanon they showed that they only understand the language of power,\u201d Ghalibaf, who is also Iran\u2019s top negotiator, said in a post on X.<\/p>\n

Iran\u2019s foreign minister last week threatened that any Israeli attack on Beirut would be a violation of the ceasefire with the US and elicit a response from Iran.<\/p>\n

IDF again calls for evacuation of Tyre ahead of strikes<\/p>\n

Also on Sunday, the IDF issued an evacuation warning for the southern coastal Lebanese city of Tyre ahead of airstrikes on Hezbollah.<\/p>\n

Residents of most neighborhoods and surrounding suburbs were instructed to head north of the Zahrani River.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn light of the Hezbollah terror organization\u2019s violation of the ceasefire agreement, the IDF is compelled to act against it with force,\u201d warned army spokesman Col. Avichay Adraee.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnyone who is near Hezbollah operatives, its facilities, and its weapons is putting their life at risk,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Tyre, the country\u2019s fifth-largest city and the most populated urban area in south Lebanon, has been ordered to evacuate several times by the IDF. Tens of thousands have fled the city in recent weeks, though Lebanese media has reported that over 100,000 people remain in the city.<\/p>\n

The IDF also announced Sunday that four reservist soldiers were moderately wounded by an explosive-laden first-person view drone launched by Hezbollah in southern Lebanon the day before.\n<\/p>\n

The troops were taken to a hospital and their families were notified, the army said.<\/p>\n

Before the Beirut strikes, Netanyahu held his weekly cabinet meeting in Jerusalem, during which he said that the IDF is continuing offensive operations against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon and warned that Israel will respond forcefully to any attacks amid the ostensible ceasefire with the terror group.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will not allow fire to be directed at our territory or our communities, and we will act accordingly,\u201d Netanyahu said in a video shared by his office, adding that the military was continuing efforts to dismantle Hezbollah infrastructure in villages near the border.<\/p>\n

Israeli forces have eliminated 350 terrorists in the past week alone, Netanyahu claimed, hailing the IDF\u2019s capture of Beaufort Ridge, \u201cwhere they uncovered a vast underground infrastructure.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added that \u201cin the Gaza Strip, we are tightening our grip on Hamas from all sides,\u201d reiterating that Israel currently controls over 60 percent of the territory and that he intends that \u201csoon we will reach 70%.\u201d<\/p>\n

Netanyahu\u2019s comments reinforced similar remarks he made last week, which drew an apparently critical response<\/a> from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Rubio stated on Tuesday that such a move was not part of US President Donald Trump\u2019s 20-point plan to end the conflict between Israel and Hamas.<\/p>\n

Also commenting on Hamas on Sunday was IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, who said said he had approved plans to \u201cfurther deepen the blow to Hezbollah\u201d in Lebanon.<\/p>\n

He also said that the military would continue to \u201cerode Hamas\u2019s power\u201d until it achieves the goal of disarming the terror group, as he visited troops in the Strip.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe IDF is strengthening operational control in the area and continues to erode Hamas\u2019s power. We will continue to operate until achieving the goal of disarming Hamas. This is a goal we are not giving up on,\u201d he said in remarks provided by the IDF.<\/p>\n
