{"id":85167,"date":"2025-07-23T05:55:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-23T05:55:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/85167\/"},"modified":"2025-07-23T05:55:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-23T05:55:09","slug":"andy-roddick-completely-disagrees-with-the-change-nick-kyrgios-has-called-for-grand-slam-tournaments-to-make","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/85167\/","title":{"rendered":"Andy Roddick completely disagrees with the change Nick Kyrgios has called for Grand Slam tournaments to make"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The ruthless tennis schedule has rapidly moved on from Wimbledon, with many ATP and WTA stars now taking on the Washington Open.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Action at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/wta-mubadala-citi-dc-open-2025-preview-tournament-schedule-top-players-and-prize-money\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Washington Open<\/a> is now underway, where Venus Williams has attracted plenty of attention with her return to tennis.<\/p>\n<p>But also on the horizon is the Canadian Open, with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/atp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ATP Tour<\/a> heading to Toronto and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/wta\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WTA Tour<\/a> heading to Montreal.<\/p>\n<p>The ATP Masters 1000 and WTA 1000 tournaments start later this month, with the US Open following shortly afterwards in the calendar.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/opinion\/jannik-sinner-and-carlos-alcaraz-have-just-exposed-a-problem-on-the-atp-tour-which-needs-to-be-fixed-quickly\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The tennis schedule certainly needs analysing<\/a> amid this current run, highlighted by the withdrawal of many star names from the upcoming events.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/GettyImages-2226379651-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Venus Williams hits a backhand at the Mubadala Citi DC Open 2025 - Day 1\" class=\"wp-image-113754\" \/>Photo by Scott Taetsch\/Getty ImagesAndy Roddick disagrees with Nick Kyrgios\u2019 proposed Grand Slam change<\/p>\n<p>Grand Slams themselves have been a major focus of the debate, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/nick-kyrgios-calls-for-major-tennis-rule-change-at-grand-slams-which-could-create-loads-of-new-champions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nick Kyrgios wanting best-of-five sets from the quarterfinals onwards<\/a> for both men and women.<\/p>\n<p>But sharing his verdict on such a change midway through an event, former world number one <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/andy-roddick\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Andy Roddick<\/a> said on his Served podcast: \u201cI don\u2019t like starting a tournament one way and then changing the entire dynamic of the tournament at a panic.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/atp-mubadala-citi-dc-open-2025-preview-who-is-playing-when-prize-money-and-full-schedule\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ATP Mubadala Citi DC Open 2025 preview: who is playing when, prize money and full schedule<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are things that women go through and most likely a lot of them are going through at some point over the course of a two week event that men don\u2019t have to go through. So very simply, that gets left out of every argument and rolling the dice on when that happens is insane.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou throw in best of five and there is some contrast overlap with what a woman is going through at that time. I don\u2019t like it at all. I don\u2019t like starting a tournament in one format and finishing it in one format.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI did not like it in the Masters 1000 on the men\u2019s side, when you get to the final and they go \u2018I know you have had a long week, but let\u2019s play seven hours before we go to a Grand Slam\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t like starting a tournament one way and finishing it in another, that does not define the best players.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it completely changes the dynamic of what has already been accomplished in that Slam up until that point.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>What are the ATP and WTA schedules up to the US Open?<\/p>\n<p>While there are plenty of high-profile players in action in the build-up to the US Open, withdrawals have unfortunately been a common theme.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/aryna-sabalenka-and-paula-badosa-both-withdraw-from-the-same-wta-tournament-in-build-up-to-us-open\/\" target=\"_blank\"
