A man is in jail and charged with murder after reportedly carjacking and killing the vehicle’s owner in north Houston on Saturday afternoon, authorities said.<\/p>\n
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a call about a carjacking in the 11800 block of Tidwell Road at about 2 p.m.<\/p>\n
Deputies said that when they were investigating the scene, the owner of the stolen vehicle, identified as 56-year-old Louis Erebia, located the vehicle.<\/p>\n
A family friend of Erebia told Eyewitness News that Erebia’s son’s truck was the one that was carjacked at gunpoint and that Erebia tracked it using GPS and located it at a gas station near the North Loop and Airline. That’s when the family friend said a confrontation followed that led to a crash.<\/p>\n
According to investigators, after the confrontation, the suspect shot Erebia and a second man before fleeing.<\/p>\n
Erebia was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. HCSO said the second man who was shot at the scene did not die.<\/p>\n
HCSO said its CSI and homicide detectives responded to the shooting scene and conducted the investigation.<\/p>\n
Officials said London Hogan Sr., 37, was charged with murder for his involvement in the deadly shooting, as well as aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated robbery. Authorities said Hogan was booked in the Harris County Jail.<\/p>\n
A family friend of Erebia said they’re having a press conference on Monday, June 8, with the family.<\/p>\n
In a statement, the family described Erebia as a husband, a father of five, and a grandfather of three.<\/p>\n
“To those who knew him, he was much more than a victim in a news story; he was the kind of man this world desperately needs more of.
