{"id":855420,"date":"2026-06-09T16:07:20","date_gmt":"2026-06-09T16:07:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/855420\/"},"modified":"2026-06-09T16:07:20","modified_gmt":"2026-06-09T16:07:20","slug":"homelessness-rose-in-northeast-florida-over-the-past-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/855420\/","title":{"rendered":"Homelessness rose in Northeast Florida over the past year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-beyondwords-marker=\"44e6856c-95c8-4491-8bb6-20df53780a8d\">The number of people experiencing homelessness in Northeast Florida increased 14% over last year, according to the nonprofit Changing Homelessness\u2019 annual <a href=\"https:\/\/jaxtoday.org\/2025\/04\/23\/point-in-time-homeless-count\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Point in Time Count<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-beyondwords-marker=\"057ebe8f-54ed-4c69-95a2-8379c9a9482b\">In January, volunteers canvassed the streets and shelters in Baker, Clay, Duval and Nassau counties.<\/p>\n<p data-beyondwords-marker=\"64ce066d-d1df-4102-acfd-b0f4ba342202\">Of a total of 1,146 people counted, 1,071 were <a href=\"https:\/\/jaxtoday.org\/2026\/03\/04\/homelessness-downtown-jacksonville\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">in Duval<\/a>. They included the 379 people who were living outside, in a car or another spot that\u2019s not meant to be shelter \u2014 representing a 31% \u201cunsheltered\u201d increase since last year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-beyondwords-marker=\"d35dff6d-c8c7-4064-affc-f1805ee58928\">Still, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.changinghomelessness.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Changing Homelessness<\/a> says\u00a0the total number of people experiencing homelessness in the region has decreased by 42% since 2016.
