Speaking to news.com.au, the DCC newcomer<\/a> joked about the \u201ccontroversy\u201d surrounding her ponytail.<\/p>\n \u201cI actually came into training camp with my hair out, like everyone else, thinking that was what the expectation was going to be,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n \u201cBut in my headshot my hair is tied up and that was what I was shown as. Every day in training camp Kelli and Judy [DCC director and choreographer, respectively] are sat with the rookies\u2019 headshots and doing their voice notes.\u201d<\/p>\n She said during the six-week-long training camp, after performing the iconic Thunderstruck routine twice, she looked in the mirror and was stunned by her appearance.<\/p>\n \u201cI am a bit of a head sweater, I\u2019m not going to lie. No one else was looking like me. I was giving drowned rat. I was like, \u2018Why do I look like this and everyone else looks airbrushed?\u2019,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd Kelli looked at me, and said she really loved my hair in my headshot. She asked how I got it that way and I explained it was tied up with extensions in.\u201d<\/p>\n It had been mentioned previously about the dancer having her hair up while performing \u2013 something Ward didn\u2019t realise was an option \u2013 and so on a water break she decided to give it a crack. It was immediately met with approval, on the condition that it \u201cdanced well\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cI wanted to dance with my hair up just as much, because I knew I didn\u2019t suit dancing with my hair out. My whole life, I\u2019ve been a slick girl. I am a technical dancer. We never have our hair out,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd my face shape doesn\u2019t suit it, from what I\u2019ve found personally.\u201d<\/p>\n
