And Cavenagh immediately set his sights on making <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/all-about\/rangers-fc\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Rangers<\/a> the number one club in Scotland again after years of <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/all-about\/celtic-fc\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Celtic<\/a> dominance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">When asked about the challenge of overtaking their Old Firm rivals &#8211; and how quickly it could be done &#8211; he said: \u201cWe think it\u2019s achievable &#8211; or we wouldn\u2019t be here.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cWe don\u2019t think it will be easy and it\u2019s not going to happen instantaneously. But we will strive to improve the on-field performance and continue to build the infrastructure of the club.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cIf we didn\u2019t think we could win, we wouldn\u2019t be here. We\u2019re here because we think we can. We relish the challenge (of toppling Celtic).<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cWe are impatient, we\u2019re competitive, so we look forward to the challenge. In terms of the rivalry, that\u2019s one of the things that makes football great. Our rivalry with Celtic\u2026Rangers wouldn\u2019t quite be the same without it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cIt\u2019s top five in the world. It\u2019s Boca Juniors v River Plate, Lazio v Roma and Rangers v Celtic &#8211; those would be the three that come to my mind.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cIt\u2019s fantastic to have it and we look forward to that challenge. There is real work to be done here, everyone is aware of that.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cParaag and I are two of the most impatient people you will meet. We are also incredibly competitive so we share our supporters\u2019 sense of urgency.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/0_JS373304816.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe <\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cWe are in with both feet today and we\u2019ll move this forward as fast as we can. How far is this club from reaching its potential? I\u2019ll give you a simple answer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cWe\u2019ve been finishing second and we\u2019d like to finish first. So we are only one position away from where we\u2019d like to be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Cavenagh and Co have vowed to invest an initial \u00a320 million into the club, which will help fund new boss <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/all-about\/russell-martin\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Russel Martin\u2019s<\/a> recruitment drive this summer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The chairman admits that if the right offers come in for their prized assets like Belgian midfielder Nico Raskin they will consider it &#8211; but only if it suits all parties.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/0_JS369399373.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Nicolas Raskin of Rangers <\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">He said: \u201cLots of different concurrent things will happen over the summer. The only thing I\u2019ll say is that the club is in a different position this year where we can be patient from a financial perspective.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cWhen there is the right opportunity we\u2019ll jump at it. And where it\u2019s right to be slow, we\u2019ll be slow. I won\u2019t go into individual players but the world of football now is where you acquire players and they move on for bigger fees.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThat\u2019s part of the financial model for the club. At any club that is not in the top five leagues, players aren\u2019t permanent. At times they will move and clubs will make a fee for them which is good for the club and the player.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cOur ownership group is looking at this on a long-term basis One of the things we hope to bring is the financial power to create stability so we are not living hand to mouth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Cavenagh revealed that making Ibrox bigger IS something the new owners will look at in the future. But he\u2019s adamant that his main priority right now is putting a winning team on the pitch.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">He said: \u201cThe expansion of Ibrox is something of interest to us but not one of our short term goals. Right now, we\u2019re focused on improving on-pitch performance as well as the infrastructure of the club itself.
