{"id":855963,"date":"2026-06-09T21:22:18","date_gmt":"2026-06-09T21:22:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/855963\/"},"modified":"2026-06-09T21:22:18","modified_gmt":"2026-06-09T21:22:18","slug":"new-exhibitions-at-moore-college-explore-art-craft-and-independence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/855963\/","title":{"rendered":"New exhibitions at Moore College explore art, craft and independence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With the nation\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/metrophiladelphia.com\/stories\/artphilly-what-now-2026,140479\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">250th anniversary<\/a> in full swing, <a href=\"https:\/\/moore.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Moore College of Art &amp; Design<\/a> has decided to go big\u2014with four new showcases all inspired by the celebratory occasion.<\/p>\n<p>First, \u2018All into One\u2019 (June 12 to July 31, presented by Philadelphia Sculptors) expands the organization\u2019s long-running \u20185 into 1\u2019 exhibition into a larger regional showcase by featuring emerging artists from local colleges.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Art Quilters Celebrate Independence\u2019 (June 13 to Aug. 29, organized by Studio Art Quilt Associates), on the other hand, brings together 39 contemporary quilts that explore freedom, human rights, and creative expression in honor of America250.<\/p>\n<p>Complementing these group exhibitions, the 2026 \u2018Juried Alumni Biennial\u2019 (June 12 to Aug. 29) features Moore alumni working across clay, fiber, glass, metal, wood, and mixed media as part of the national \u2018Handiwork: Celebrating American Craft\u2019 2026 initiative.<\/p>\n<p>Rounding out the season, \u2018Homecoming\u2019 (June 12 to July 18) will shine a spotlight on salvaged wood sculptures by Laura Petrovich-Cheney.<\/p>\n<p>As Moore notes, together, these exhibitions highlight the enduring impact of handmade practices, material exploration and artistic storytelling across generations.<\/p>\n<p>With \u2018All into One\u2019, visitors will get to peruse around contemporary sculptures and three-dimensional art, \u00a0building on a 26-year legacy at Moore. \u2018Art Quilters Celebrate Independence\u2019 takes a juried touring exhibition that showcases innovative conceptual and technical approaches and shines a spotlight on practices for local audiences. \u00a0The \u20182026 Juried Alumni Biennial\u2019 spans functional, wearable, sculptural, and conceptual forms, all of which were juried by Leila Cartier, executive director of the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, and a Moore alumna whose career has included leadership roles at CraftNOW Philadelphia.<\/p>\n<p>And finally, \u2018Homecoming\u2019 features a series of wall-based sculptures crafted from salvaged architectural wood like siding, cabinet doors, and floorboards, some recovered in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. The exhibition also marks Petrovich-Cheney\u2019s return to Philadelphia, with a career that spans works shown at the International Quilt Museum, Fuller Craft Museum, and Toledo Museum of Art.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/moore.edu\/the-galleries-at-moore\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Galleries at Moore<\/a> will present four public opening receptions to accompany the exhibits.
