Three residents filed the case on behalf of a class estimated at more than 10,000 members.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cThe <a href=\"https:\/\/tech.yahoo.com\/ai\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:artificial intelligence;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;context_link&quot;,&quot;yModuleName&quot;:&quot;content-canvas&quot;,&quot;yLinkText&quot;:&quot;artificial intelligence&quot;}\" class=\"link \" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">artificial intelligence<\/a> (AI) boom is \u200cwreaking havoc on communities across \u2060the United States\u201d by subjecting thousands of residents to near-constant noise and vibrations, the lawsuit said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The plaintiffs are seeking damages for \u2060alleged emotional distress, reduced property values and other harms, as well as disgorgement of an unspecified amount in profits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">xAI and SpaceX did not immediately respond to \u200brequests for \u200bcomment. xAI subsidiary MZX Tech was also \u200bnamed as a defendant. Musk \u200cis not a defendant.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A lawyer for the plaintiffs, Robert Wiygul, in a statement, said, \u201cOur homes are supposed to be a sanctuary for us against the world,&#8221; but \u201cwhen they are invaded by noise 24 hours a day, it takes that fundamental peace of a good and decent life away from us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">xAI invested \u200cmore than $20 billion to build the plant \u200bat Southaven with the backing of Mississippi \u200bGovernor Tate Reeves. Gas-fired turbines \u200bat Southaven power data centers in and around Southaven, the \u200clawsuit said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The NAACP in April sued \u200bxAI over the plant \u200band centers, accusing the company of violating U.S. environmental rules.
