More than three months after KTLA cut Glen Walker as the station\u2019s midday anchor<\/a>, the longtime Los Angeles newscaster returns to the airwaves on Wednesday, June 10, as a roving anchor on KTTV and KCOP, Fox TV\u2019s two Los Angeles stations.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey hired me as a per-diem anchor,\u201d Walker said when reached Tuesday, June 9, at the Fox Television Center in West Los Angeles. \u201cThey\u2019ve got a lot going on.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s see, they do the 5, 6, and a 10 on Fox 11,\u201d he continued, ticking off the different newscasts where he\u2019ll appear on KTTV Channel 11. \u201cThey do an 8 and a 9 o\u2019clock on Channel 13 [KCOP].<\/p>\n

\u201cSo I\u2019ll be rotating between the two different channels wherever they need me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Walker was told on Feb. 24 that he no longer had a job at KTLA, where he had worked since 2010. His co-anchor Lu Parker and longtime KTLA meteorologist Mark Kriski also lost their jobs that day.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cLet me get someplace where I can talk,\u201d Walker said after answering the phone on Tuesday. \u201cThis new building, I\u2019m like all twisted around. I can\u2019t believe how big this place is.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, June 10, he\u2019ll be introduced to viewers on the 5 p.m., 6 p.m., 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts. Then, on Thursday, June 11, he\u2019ll slip back behind the anchor desk and get back to work.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m going to anchor, let\u2019s see, I think the 6 o\u2019clock news on Fox 11, the 8 and the 9 on 13,\u201d Walker said of his Thursday schedule. \u201cThen Friday night, I do the 5 and the 10 on Fox 11. Actually, I\u2019m not sure yet.\u201d<\/p>\n

If that kind of ever-changing schedule makes you nervous just to read it, Walker didn\u2019t sound concerned about the calendar he\u2019ll need to keep track of things.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, the assistant news director does a great job of providing one,\u201d Walker said. \u201cI\u2019ll just have to mark them all on a calendar. But it\u2019s great to be back to work. I started yesterday, just a lot of paperwork and HR and all that stuff, so I\u2019m ready to go.\u201d<\/p>\n

Late Monday, Walker posted a photograph taken as he left Fox 11 on Monday and posted it to social media with the caption, \u201cNext chapter begins.\u201d Friends, viewers, and colleagues at both KTLA<\/a> and KTTV posted congratulations and best wishes.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of those comments were from my former colleagues at KTLA, which was really nice,\u201d Walker said. Already, he\u2019s run into a handful of people he worked with at KTLA and before that, KCBS in the Fox 11 building, making his arrival there a welcoming one.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s funny is that I come in here [and] it was two people I knew really well,\u201d he said. \u201cSoumada Khan, does the weather on the morning show. She used to go on our assignment desk way back when I started at KTLA.<\/p>\n

\u201cThen Dianne Sanchez worked on the assignment desk there. Should have gotten the promotion to be the head of the assignment desk. When they brought in someone else, she came over here. She\u2019s awesome.\u201d<\/p>\n

Having worked the daily rush of TV news for so many years, Walker said he was restless through the weeks and months between leaving KTLA and landing the new gig at the Fox stations.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s just put it this way: I like golf, but I don\u2019t want to play four days a week,\u201d he said. \u201cI was definitely not ready to retire, you know. The other place wanted to give me, as they said, \u2018the sendoff that you deserve.\u2019<\/p>\n
