{"id":85675,"date":"2025-07-23T10:27:11","date_gmt":"2025-07-23T10:27:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/85675\/"},"modified":"2025-07-23T10:27:11","modified_gmt":"2025-07-23T10:27:11","slug":"gaza-protest-on-greek-island-stops-israeli-visitors-from-touring-syros","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/85675\/","title":{"rendered":"Gaza protest on Greek island stops Israeli visitors from touring Syros"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ATHENS, Greece (AP) \u2014 A cruise ship carrying Israeli tourists left the Greek island of Syros Tuesday without its passengers disembarking, after more than 150 protesters demonstrated at the island\u2019s port, unfurling Palestinian flags and calling for an end to the <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/israel-hamas-war\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">war in Gaza<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Carrying banners that read: \u201cStop the Genocide\u201d and \u201cNo a\/c in hell\u201d \u2014 a reference to the conditions Palestinians face in the Gaza Strip \u2014 the protesters chanted slogans on the dock near where the cruise ship, the Crown Iris, was docked on Tuesday, local media said. (Nikos Panagiotopoulos\/InTime News via AP)<\/p>\n<p>Read More<\/p>\n<p>The ship is operated by an Israeli company, Mano Cruise, which said about 1,700 passengers were on board and it is sailing to Cyprus. <\/p>\n<p>Greece\u2019s coast guard said the ship set sail at around 3 p.m., earlier than originally scheduled, but did not immediately have any further details.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe management of Mano Cruise has decided in light of the situation in the city of Syros to now sail to another tourist destination,\u201d the company said in a press release. \u201cAll passengers and crew members are resting and spending time on the ship on their way to the new destination.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Israel\u2019s Foreign Minister Gideon Saar contacted his Greek counterpart, George Gerapetritis, over the incident, the Greek foreign ministry confirmed.
