The technology also works with classes where the instructor\u2019s presentation is pre-recorded, but students can still closely interact with the material however they choose.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you think about watching a YouTube video, that\u2019s a very passive experience,\u201d Carey said. \u201cIn the VXP, even with our pre-recorded, asynchronous material, you can be in that explore mode while watching the recordings. You can zoom around, check out other things.\u201d<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-709251\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/barnes-vxp-class-2025.jpg\" alt=\"Kaelin Jewell leads an online class showing the Claude Monet painting\" width=\"2379\" height=\"1354\"  \/>Kaelin Jewell, senior instructor for adult education at the Barnes, leads a session about Claude Monet\u2019s 1876 painting \u201dThe Studio Boat.\u201d (Barnes Foundation)\n<\/p>\n<p>The technology is aligned with the Barnes Foundation\u2019s educational philosophy that was established over a century ago by its founder <a href=\"https:\/\/whyy.org\/episodes\/albert-barnes-foundation-gopnik\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dr. Albert Barnes<\/a> and philosopher John Dewey, with whom Barnes had a close association.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDewey argued that the most meaningful learning happens when students participate actively in the process,\u201d said Martha Lucy, the Barnes\u2019 deputy director for research, interpretation, and education. \u201cHe and Dr. Albert Barnes both believed that a work of art is something to be experienced and discovered by the individual learner \u2014 not something that you just passively receive information about.\u201d\n  <\/p>\n<p>Licensing its technology to other institutions is part of the Barnes Foundation\u2019s recent push to expand its operations and services beyond the legacy of its founder and his renowned art collection.\n<\/p>\n<p>Recently, the Barnes <a href=\"https:\/\/whyy.org\/articles\/pew-center-moves-barnes-foundation-philadelphia\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">became the administrative operation partner of the Pew Center for Arts and Heritage<\/a>.
