{"id":857438,"date":"2026-06-10T12:23:16","date_gmt":"2026-06-10T12:23:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/857438\/"},"modified":"2026-06-10T12:23:16","modified_gmt":"2026-06-10T12:23:16","slug":"hugh-laurie-admits-he-was-slightly-drunk-when-he-roasted-a-journalist-who-criticized-house","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/857438\/","title":{"rendered":"Hugh Laurie admits he was &#8216;slightly drunk&#8217; when he roasted a journalist who criticized &#8216;House&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hugh Laurie is fessing up to being \u201cslightly drunk\u201d after roasting a \u201cHouse\u201d critic on\u00a0social media.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, British journalist Janet Murray uploaded a screenshot of an article she penned on UnHerd, titled, \u201cWhat I learnt from my online fight with Hugh Laurie.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The entire online debacle began when Murray penned a review of \u201cHouse,\u201d which Laurie starred in from 2004 until 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Murray wrote\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/jan_murray\/status\/2064039901243285904\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">on X<\/a>\u00a0Monday that Laurie\u2019s response to her criticism sparked \u201csome fairly horrific trolling.\u201d Laurie offered his apologies in a lengthy\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/hughlaurie\/status\/2064076498894836159\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">tweet<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Hugh Laurie said he was \u201cslightly drunk\u201d after calling out a critic of his TV show \u201cHouse\u201d on\u00a0social media. REUTERS<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m sorry if people have been having a go at you because of my tweet. Not at all the plan. I was very slightly drunk and already upset about something that had nothing to do with you,\u201d he began.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf it\u2019s any comfort, I got it in the neck too. I\u2019m a thin-skinned t\u2013t, apparently, even though it wasn\u2019t my skin. I was sticking up for the writers who I adored.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously I shouldn\u2019t have cited Bach\/Kahlo\/Moore \u2014 asking for trouble \u2014 and would have done better to go for the 10,000\u00a0blues songs\u00a0written around the same 12 bar chord structure.<\/p>\n<p>British journalist Janet Murray wrote an article about her experience online after Laurie roasted her.<\/p>\n<p>Laurie offered his apologies to Murray in a lengthy\u00a0tweet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve listened to most of them and will keep doing so. Because we love what we love,\u201d Laurie signed off.<\/p>\n<p>Murray replied with, \u201cThank you. \u2018Having a go\u2019 is probably an understatement.\u201d She acknowledged his apologies and signed off the exchange by saying she has \u201cno hard feelings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Murray and Laurie\u2019s online spat began on June 6. Murray took to X and shared her thoughts about season 1 of \u201cHouse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Laurie starred on \u201cHouse\u201d as Dr. Gregory House from 2004 until 2012.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLate to the party, but I\u2019ve started watching Season 1 of House. Same narrative every episode: Patient has mysterious illness. Hugh Laurie (House) gets diagnosis wrong. Patient nearly dies. Hugh Laurie gets diagnosis wrong again. Gets threatened with being fired. Patient nearly dies again. Hugh Laurie has last minute leftfield idea. Gets diagnosis right. Doesn\u2019t get fired. Eight seasons of this?\u201d she wrote\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/jan_murray\/status\/2063310360514363400\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">on X<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Laurie\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/hughlaurie\/status\/2063714447084929437\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">wrote back<\/a>: \u201cThanks for your critique, Janet. We actually tried a couple of episodes where House (Hugh Laurie) (please put the brackets in the right place) gets it right first time, but they were only 6 minutes long.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNBC weren\u2019t happy. Then we tried some where House never gets it right and the patient dies. The audience wasn\u2019t happy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The pair went back and forth online for days before it appears that they have squashed their differences.<\/p>\n<p>Laurie, an English actor, comedian, writer, musician and producer, is best known for his role as Dr. Gregory House in the hit\u00a0medical drama\u00a0\u201cHouse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Laurie first gained fame through comedy partnerships with Stephen Fry in shows such as \u201cA Bit of Fry &amp; Laurie\u201d and \u201cBlackadder.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Hugh Laurie is fessing up to being \u201cslightly drunk\u201d after roasting a \u201cHouse\u201d critic on\u00a0social media.
