The first trailer for Stellar Blade: Blood Rain set a few alarm bells ringing when it was revealed during Summer Game Fest on June 5, and I\u2019m not just talking about all of the suspicions surrounding its alleged use of GenAI<\/a>. In fact, all anyone can seemingly talk about is the child-like appearance of Stellar Blade: Blood Rain\u2019s new protagonist, Evie. The CEO of its developer, Shift Up, has recently brushed off these complaints in an interview, in which he states that the \u201cphysical looks\u201d of Evie are secondary to how much of a \u201clovable character\u201d she is.<\/p>\n

Shift Up CEO Hyung-tae Kim, who also directed the original Stellar Blade in 2024, recently sat down with IGN<\/a>\u00a0to talk about all things Stellar Blade: Blood Rain. Naturally, the topic of Stellar Blade\u2019s protagonist, Eve, and the internet\u2019s reaction to the youthful appearance of the sequel\u2019s new protagonist, Evie, popped up in conversation, but Kim shrugged off the complaints and stated that fans won\u2019t feel the same once they \u201cactually play the game.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYes. She is younger. She\u2019s smaller in size. She\u2019s shorter than Eve,\u201d Kim replied, \u201cbut she has a stronger personality and engages in much tougher battles. And she\u2019s actually part of a special squad that chases after a group of terrorists who cause terror attacks here and there in the city.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you actually play the game, you will not think that,\u201d he continued. \u201cI definitely like how Eve looked in the previous Stellar Blade. But this time, Evie, not just her physical looks, but her personality, the way she talks, the way she engages in battles, all that will combine together, and you\u2019ll see that she\u2019s a very lovable character.\u201d<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve re-read these comments several times, and it just comes across as evasive nonsense to me. Kim\u2019s response doesn\u2019t really address Evie\u2019s appearance, nor her overtly sexualized poses in the trailer, beyond stating that she is \u201cyounger\u201d and \u201csmaller in size.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kim did, however, talk about the new outfits that will be available for Evie in Stellar Blade: Blood Rain: \u201cIt will be even more appealing\u2026That\u2019s all we can say.\u201d Good lord. I hope \u201cmore appealing\u201d doesn\u2019t mean what I think it means in this context.
