Mike Lawler skips gubernatorial run, seeks re-election"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NEW YORK (WRGB) \u2014 NY Representative Mike Lawler (R) who was expected to announce a gubernatorial run on FOX &amp; Friends Wednesday morning, instead is <a href=\"https:\/\/cbs6albany.com\/news\/local\/president-trump-endorses-lawler-for-new-yorks-17th-congressional-district-re-election-bid#\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/cbs6albany.com\/news\/local\/president-trump-endorses-lawler-for-new-yorks-17th-congressional-district-re-election-bid#\" class=\"themeColorForLinks\" rel=\"noopener\">seeking re-election in NY&#8217;s 17th district <\/a>covering the Hudson Valley.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cServing the Hudson Valley has been the greatest honor of my life, and I&#8217;m proud of the wins I\u2019ve delivered for New York and the American people. From delivering historic tax relief, raising the SALT cap, securing our border, and strengthening our national security and America\u2019s role in the world, to passing groundbreaking crypto legislation to reaffirm the United States as the leader in the digital economy, I\u2019ve shown what&#8217;s possible when you put common-sense solutions above partisan politics,\u201d stated Congressman Lawler. <\/p>\n<p>The Congressman has been serving NY-17 since 2023, previously serving in 2021-22 as a member of the NY Assembly from NY-97 in Rockland County.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement Wednesday Lawler also criticized Gov. Kathy Hochul&#8217;s time in the position. <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Under Kathy Hochul, New York has the highest taxes, the worst business climate, and leads the nation in outmigration. In short, Kathy Hochul is the worst Governor in America and must be defeated in 2026,\u201d continued Congressman Lawler. &#8220;Over the past six months, I have given considerable thought as to how I can best serve New York \u2014 whether in Albany or Washington. While I fundamentally believe I am best positioned to take on Kathy Hochul and offer New Yorkers a real choice for Governor, I have made the decision to run for re-election to the House and continue the important work I\u2019ve been doing over the past two and a half years.
