Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>A revival of \u201cbroken windows\u201d policing and cracking down on disorder has been a major plank of Adams\u2019 public safety policy, which he has been touting during his re-election battle as an independent.<\/p>\n<p>But his comments about constant wafting weed smell contrast with the mayor\u2019s enthusiastic embrace of the legal cannabis industry.<\/p>\n<p>As recently as Saturday, the mayor visited a legal weed festival in Harlem and declared he wants the Big Apple to be the \u201ccannabis capital of the globe,\u201d AMNY <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amny.com\/lifestyle\/cannabis\/nyc-cannabis-capital-fair-harlem-mayor-adams\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Hizzoner also laughed off a record-breaking surge of odor complaints during the summer of 2022 by saying it wasn\u2019t sun-ripened garbage that he was smelling.<\/p>\n<p>The Post\u2019s Miranda Devine interviews Mayor Adams in the Peach Room at Gracie Mansion on July 9, 2025. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>He drew laughs last year when he took a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/tv\/news\/new-york-mayor-eric-adams-cannabis-video-b2604033.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">big, seemingly admiring sniff <\/a>of a bag stuffed with illegal weed, moments before it was incinerated.<\/p>\n<p>But lest the city\u2019s potheads think Adams is Tommy Chong-ing it in Gracie Mansion, he has <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/O2IZofTdNXg?si=1gypy4nLwz60vCae\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">claimed to not partake<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, I don\u2019t smoke,\u201d he told The Daily Show in 2023, although he jokingly copped to getting it secondhand. <\/p>\n<p>Marijuana can be smoked publicly most places that tobacco can be, under the state\u2019s legal cannabis law. Secondhand is everywhere now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Adams added he didn\u2019t want children smoking marijuana on the way to school or eating cannabis \u201cgummy bears and other bulls\u2013t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His concern for children taking drugs goes way back \u2014 as his <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/video\/old-eric-adams-psa-on-how-to-find-your-kids-contraband-comes-back-to-haunt-him\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">infamous, much-mocked PSA<\/a> from 2011 proves.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomething simple as a baby doll\u201d could be a place to \u201csecrete, or hide\u201d drugs, Adams warned parents in the video, demonstrating with a giant bag of presumably fake weed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"It stinks to high heaven.
