The project site at Joey Georgusis Park in Far West Oak Cliff was mobilized May 15<\/a> and is undergoing excavation, Wings CEO and managing partner Greg Bibb told The Dallas Morning News. Construction is set to begin soon, with April 16, 2027, being the expected move-in date.<\/p>\n

Only recently did dirt begin to move, despite initial promises to open the 70,000-square-foot facility by spring 2026 from Dallas leadership.<\/p>\n

In April 2024, the Wings signed a 15-year, $19 million use agreement<\/a> with the city to move to downtown\u2019s Memorial Auditorium in time for the 2026 WNBA season.That deal included plans for a new practice facility to be built adjacent to the renovated venue.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Bibb told The News in January that within a month of the ceremony, City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert acknowledged the city would not be able to meet a spring 2026 deadline. Tolbert and Bibb agreed it would be best for the Wings to take over as the developer<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Wings have since done so, building the facility with $52 million of city money \u2014 and $27 million of its own. While the Wings weren\u2019t initially responsible for funding part of the construction, the organization agreed to it.<\/p>\n

\u201cA piece of our funding is to accelerate the timeline of the construction to ensure that we have that facility ready for training camp next year,\u201d Bibb said.<\/p>\n

The Wings officially took over the project in late April, when they negotiated and signed a developer agreement with the city. That was around when training camp for the 2026 season began<\/a> at UT-Arlington\u2019s College Park Center.<\/p>\n

With the Memorial Auditorium move-in date now pushed to 2028, the team will continue playing home games there for the foreseeable future.
