{"id":860045,"date":"2026-06-11T14:39:15","date_gmt":"2026-06-11T14:39:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/860045\/"},"modified":"2026-06-11T14:39:15","modified_gmt":"2026-06-11T14:39:15","slug":"annecy-bound-picture-julian-acquired-for-france-first-clip","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/860045\/","title":{"rendered":"Annecy-Bound Picture &#8216;Juli\u00e1n&#8217; Acquired For France + First Clip"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>EXCLUSIVE: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/gebeka-films\/\" id=\"auto-tag_gebeka-films\" data-tag=\"gebeka-films\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gebeka Films<\/a> has acquired French distribution rights to Oscar-nominated filmmaker Louise Bagnall\u2019s animated feature <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/julian\/\" id=\"auto-tag_julian\" data-tag=\"julian\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Juli\u00e1n<\/a> ahead of its world premiere at the <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/annecy\/\" id=\"auto-tag_annecy\" data-tag=\"annecy\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Annecy<\/a> International Animation Film Festival later this month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe picture is produced by five-time Academy Award-nominated Irish animation studio <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/cartoon-saloon\/\" id=\"auto-tag_cartoon-saloon\" data-tag=\"cartoon-saloon\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cartoon Saloon<\/a>, the award-winning animation production house behind The Secret of Kells, Song of the Sea, Wolfwalkers and The Breadwinner.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAdapted from Jessica Love\u2019s 2014 bestselling children\u2019s book Juli\u00e1n Is a Mermaid, the film revolves seven-year-old Juli\u00e1n who spends the summer with a grandmother he barely knows. He is amazed to discover her treasure-trove apartment, his own Caribbean heritage and the surroundong lively Brooklyn community. But most surprising of all, Juli\u00e1n discovers that he is a mermaid.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tInternational sales are handled by New Europe Film Sales, which launched sales on the project during the Cannes Film Festival.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe French deal follows a series of international acquisitions already secured for the film, including Ireland (Wildcard Distribution), the U.K. (Elysian Film Group), Canada (Elevation Pictures), Denmark (Angel Films), Sweden (Folkets Bio), Poland (Young Horizons) and Norway (Arthaus).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tJuli\u00e1n marks the feature directorial debut of Bagnall, whose short film Late Afternoon earned an Academy Award nomination in 2019. The film is produced by Cartoon Saloon alongside Melusine Studio, Aircraft Pictures and Sun Creature, with Academy Award winner Zoe Salda\u00f1a attached as executive producer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tJan Naszewski, CEO of New Europe Film Sales said \u201cWe\u2019re thrilled to partner with Gebeka on this title \u2013 their track record in promoting smart content for children in France is unbeatable. Juli\u00e1n is in good hands.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tVladimir Koch of Gebeka Films comments: \u201cJuli\u00e1n is a very creative and refreshing animation feature film for the young audience. We are very happy to work on this title with Gebeka films for the release in France.
