{"id":861196,"date":"2026-06-12T02:07:46","date_gmt":"2026-06-12T02:07:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/861196\/"},"modified":"2026-06-12T02:07:46","modified_gmt":"2026-06-12T02:07:46","slug":"bobcats-make-history-as-first-to-play-on-renovated-field-of-dreams","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/861196\/","title":{"rendered":"Bobcats make history as first to play on renovated Field of Dreams"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">FARLEY, Iowa \u2014 The Western Dubuque Bobcats will become the first eastern Iowa area school to play on the renovated Field of Dreams Major League Baseball diamond Wednesday when they face Clinton as part of the \u201cIf You Build It\u201d high school series.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cIt is pretty cool to know that I can say that I\u2019ve played on an MLB field, and considering we\u2019re the first one to be on it after it\u2019s been renovated and everything, that\u2019s just really cool,\u201d said a Western Dubuque senior Symon McDermott.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cIt\u2019s kind of jaw dropping a little bit. You\u2019re like oh I\u2019m playing on the same field as some of the best guys in the MLB like Aaron Judge a few years ago,\u201d Western Dubuque senior Logan Plumley added. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Freshman Adler Gibbs attended the Yankees versus White Sox game at the Field of Dreams in 2021, scoring tickets through a family friend. He saw Aaron Judge play in person.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cWhen Tim Anderson hit the walk off that was the most electric \u2014 it was just crazy no matter, Yankees or White Sox fan everyone was just cheering,\u201d Gibbs said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Playing just 10 minutes from Dyersville, many of the Bobcats have visited the movie site.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cOn the original field I have. Once when I was 9 years old I believe,\u201d Western Dubuque senior Brett Harris said about playing on the move site field. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI\u2019ve never played on the field, but when I was younger our babysitter we always used to want to go to the field throw balls around and go in the cornfield,\u201d Gibbs added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Some players work part time at the field.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI like prep baseball fields, so I like chalk them, drag them, smooth them out whatever before and after every tournament game we have out there,\u201d McDermott said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Ben Kluesner said he has worked at the field for two years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cOne of my friend\u2019s parents is pretty involved in it and he asked me to do it,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s a fun time. I really enjoy it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The Bobcats have dealt with rain delays throughout the week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cIt\u2019s terrible. I mean Friday we got rained out, Monday we got rained out, Tuesday we got rained out then yesterday we started our game,\u201d Gibbs explained. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">For baseball fans across the country, the Field of Dreams is a bucket-list destination. For the Bobcats, it is in their backyard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI think I take it for granted. A lot of people, that\u2019s their dream destination, but since you live so close to it, it\u2019s kind of once of those things that it\u2019s there, but I think playing on it will do it some more justice,\u201d Western Dubuque junior Sam McDermott said. <\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 KCRG.
