On August 1 — International Beer Day — the brand is handing out 50,000 beers across the country in a one-day celebration it’s calling “50K Beers for 50 Years.”

Before Miller Lite became a fixture in coolers, bars, and ballparks across America, it got its start deep in the heart of Texas. The beer was first brewed in 1975 at the Miller brewery here in Fort Worth — a facility that’s still cranking out millions of barrels a year. At the time, a “light” beer was a radical idea in a market dominated by full-strength lagers, but Miller saw an opening. They tapped into a growing crowd of drinkers who wanted something with fewer calories that didn’t taste like watered-down regret.

What came out of that Fort Worth brew kettle was revolutionary: a pilsner-style beer with real body and flavor, thanks to a recipe adapted from Chicago chemist Joseph Owades and refined under the name “Lite Beer from Miller.” With blue-collar swagger and a now-iconic slogan — “Tastes Great, Less Filling” — Miller Lite became the first successful mainstream light beer in the U.S., paving the way for an entirely new category.

Now, five decades later, the heart of the 50th anniversary celebration beats out of Milwaukee, where the brand’s flagship brewery will host a first-of-its-kind “Beer Drop.” Think Times Square on New Year’s Eve — but instead of a glittering ball, it’s a towering six-pack of oversized Miller Lite cans, each one symbolizing a U.S. time zone. Starting at 4:50 p.m. local time (that’s right, “for the 50th”), each can will drop as folks from coast to coast raise their glasses.

There are four ways to join the toast: in person at the Milwaukee brewery, at one of the participating bars around the country, via livestream, or by claiming a free beer online at millerlite.com (if you’re 21 or older, of course). The digital giveaway translates to a $5 reward sent straight to your Venmo or prepaid card — a simple gesture with plenty of fizz.

To kick things off, Miller Lite tapped one of its most famous fans: country star Luke Combs. “Miller Lite is my go-to beer, everyone knows that,” he said in the announcement. “So I’m excited to help them celebrate 50 years with 50,000 beers for International Beer Day — now that’s how you do it.”

The toast is just one part of Miller Lite’s yearlong golden anniversary campaign. Earlier this summer, the brand released limited-edition gold cans and collaborated with comedian Marcello Hernandez to commemorate five decades of easy-drinking history. And if you think Miller Lite’s ready to slow down, think again — the team’s already raising a can to the next 50.

“The 50th anniversary is more than a milestone — it’s a celebration of our fans,” said Ann Legan, vice president of marketing for the Miller family of brands. “We’ve spent five decades sharing Miller Time moments, and this is our way of saying thanks.”

Miller Lite turns 50 this year, and the Original Light Beer is celebrating the only way it knows…

[5138
5229,7738,64,2105,7371,7372,9730,58145,358,7453,3187,67,586,132,5230,68,2969
0":"post-86120","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-fort-worth","8":"tag-america","9":"tag-beer","10":"tag-business","11":"tag-food-and-drink","12":"tag-fort-worth","13":"tag-fortworth","14":"tag-fwtx-staff","15":"tag-miller-lite","16":"tag-texas","17":"tag-top-story","18":"tag-tx","19":"tag-united-states","20":"tag-united-states-of-america","21":"tag-unitedstates","22":"tag-unitedstatesofamerica","23":"tag-us","24":"tag-usa
["GET
