{"id":861681,"date":"2026-06-12T07:10:17","date_gmt":"2026-06-12T07:10:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/861681\/"},"modified":"2026-06-12T07:10:17","modified_gmt":"2026-06-12T07:10:17","slug":"5-year-old-girl-swept-into-ocean-off-laguna-beach-is-idd-mourned","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/861681\/","title":{"rendered":"5-year-old girl swept into ocean off Laguna Beach is ID&#8217;d, mourned"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The body of a 5-year-old girl who was swept into the ocean with her family in Laguna Beach before vanishing in dangerously high surf has been recovered.<\/p>\n<p>The girl\u2019s body was spotted during an aerial coastline survey about 1:30 p.m. Thursday near Christmas Cove, about a quarter of a mile away from where she was initially lost at Treasure Island Beach, the city announced in a news release.<\/p>\n<p>The child was later identified as Amada Mia Brown of San Bernardino, said Sgt. Lizbeth Gwisdalla of the Orange County  Sheriff\u2019s Department.<\/p>\n<p>Amada\u2019s father, Aaron Brown, described his daughter as full of life and \u201ca sweet little baby\u201d in an <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/watch\/?v=2509380522847572\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">interview with NBC<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe loved the beach and she wasn\u2019t afraid of water,\u201d Brown said. \u201cSad that this happened to her. She didn\u2019t deserve it.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust remembering her life and not trying to just get stuck on the fact that she\u2019s gone is definitely helping me get through it,\u201d he told NBC. <\/p>\n<p>Amada went missing near Treasure Island Beach on Tuesday night when she, her mother and brother were pulled into the ocean. The girl\u2019s disappearance sparked a frantic and widespread 24-hour search. Crews from the Orange County Sheriff\u2019s Department Harbor Patrol and the U.S. Coast Guard were called in, alongside the Laguna Beach Marine Safety Department, but search efforts were called off Wednesday night.<\/p>\n<p>The tragedy left the community reeling.<\/p>\n<p>Laguna Beach Mayor Mark Orgill issued a statement expressing sympathy for the girl\u2019s family when the search was first called off.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is one of the most heartbreaking incidents I have witnessed during my time serving this community,\u201d Orgill said in the statement. \u201cOur hearts go out to the young victim\u2019s family, friends, and all those affected by this tragic loss.
