CLARY\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>AFP via Getty ImagesKey Facts<\/p>\n<p class=\"timeline-fact\">A three-judge panel in a Manhattan federal appeals court upheld Bankman-Fried\u2019s conviction and sentence Friday, saying in a 42-page ruling Bankman-Fried was the \u201cmain driver of one of the largest frauds on record.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"timeline-fact\">Bankman-Fried, whose cryptocurrency exchange FTX collapsed in spectacular fashion in 2022, was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/archives\/opa\/pr\/samuel-bankman-fried-sentenced-25-years-his-orchestration-multiple-fraudulent-schemes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/archives\/opa\/pr\/samuel-bankman-fried-sentenced-25-years-his-orchestration-multiple-fraudulent-schemes\" aria-label=\"sentenced\">sentenced<\/a> to 25 years in prison in 2024 after he was found guilty on seven counts, including two counts of wire fraud, and additional counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, money laundering and securities fraud.<\/p>\n<p class=\"timeline-fact\">The appeals court rejected Bankman-Fried\u2019s claim that his trial was \u201cfundamentally unfair\u201d and that the judge was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2024-09-13\/sbf-seeks-new-trial-blaming-federal-judge-for-ridiculing-him\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2024-09-13\/sbf-seeks-new-trial-blaming-federal-judge-for-ridiculing-him\" aria-label=\"biased\">biased<\/a> against him, saying in the ruling the \u201cgovernment\u2019s evidence against him was, conservatively stated, robust.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"timeline-fact\">Bankman-Fried\u2019s lawyers previously <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/sam-bankman-fried-ftx-cryptocurrency-appeal-b1abdfd4c00ed4118791d3151b9a4e20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/sam-bankman-fried-ftx-cryptocurrency-appeal-b1abdfd4c00ed4118791d3151b9a4e20\" aria-label=\"argued\">argued<\/a> before the appeals court that federal judge Lewis A.
