{"id":86450,"date":"2025-07-23T17:13:08","date_gmt":"2025-07-23T17:13:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/86450\/"},"modified":"2025-07-23T17:13:08","modified_gmt":"2025-07-23T17:13:08","slug":"former-disney-boss-to-run-l-a-2028-olympics-ceremonies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/86450\/","title":{"rendered":"Former Disney boss to run L.A. 2028 Olympics ceremonies"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Former 21st Century Fox and Walt Disney Co. executive Peter Rice has been named head of ceremonies and content for the 2028 Summer Olympics and Paralympics in Los Angeles, LA28 organizers said Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>In this role, the longtime TV veteran will be in charge of the physical production and creative oversight of the opening and closing ceremonies for both games. The 2028 Summer Olympics\u2019 opening ceremony will be held at two venues \u2014 the Coliseum and SoFi Stadium. The Games\u2019 closing ceremony will be held at the Coliseum.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, Rice said he looked forward to producing ceremonies that would honor the legacy of the Coliseum and \u201ccelebrate the cutting-edge future\u201d of SoFi Stadium.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese venues have hosted some of the most legendary moments in sports history,\u201d Rice said. \u201cI\u2019m thrilled to deliver a powerful artistic experience that adds a new chapter to LA\u2019s Olympic and Paralympic story.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>LA28 President and Chairperson Casey Wasserman said Rice\u2019s background in \u201ccreativity, operational insight and production excellence\u201d made him ideal for the position.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s been a leading figure in shaping the modern television and film landscape and is the perfect asset to reimagining the delivery of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies for the digital age, leaving a legacy well beyond the Games,\u201d Wasserman said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Rice spent decades at Rupert Murdoch\u2019s 21st Century Fox, eventually rising to the role of president. After Disney acquired the entertainment assets of 21st Century Fox in 2019, he became chairman of Disney\u2019s TV content division. At one point, analysts and insiders speculated that he could become Disney\u2019s CEO. <\/p>\n<p>He was <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/business\/story\/2022-06-09\/peter-rice-ousted-as-disney-tv-chief-in-major-shakeup\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ousted from that role in 2022<\/a> over issues of \u201ccultural fit,\u201d insiders said at the time.
