PHOENIX (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 Firefighters rescued a woman from Piestewa Peak<\/a> early Saturday morning after she showed signs of heat-related illness.<\/p>\n

Around 6 a.m., Phoenix fire crews were called to the popular hiking area in north Phoenix for reports of an ill hiker.<\/p>\n

Rescue crews hiked about a quarter-mile up the trail and found a woman in her 30s suffering from symptoms including cramping, nausea and vomiting.<\/p>\n

Firefighters placed her on a big wheel, a rescue stretcher designed for off-road terrain, and brought her down to an ambulance.<\/p>\n

She was taken to the hospital in stable condition.<\/p>\n

Phoenix Fire Capt. Mike Johnson said Arizona\u2019s extreme heat<\/a> can affect anyone.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis heat is out to get you,\u201d Johnson said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m sure that this hiker was trying to do all the right things,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cThey were out here early, they had already been up and were on their way down.\u201d<\/p>\n

First responders stress that it\u2019s a good idea to wear proper footwear, pack plenty of water, and be aware of temperatures before you hit the trails. Hikers are encouraged to follow “Take a Hike. Do it Right<\/a>” guidelines and choose a trail<\/a> that best fits their experience, the time of day and weather conditions.<\/p>\n

High temperatures in Phoenix are expected to reach 108 degrees Saturday through Monday before increasing to 110 degrees on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
